Full-range stereo sound?! RIGHT.
Alright, I bought one of these nifty things yesterday cause my other headphones literally fell in pieces, I though having a built-in mic was a very interesting feature for a pair of 'phones.. But damn, although it says "Full-range Stereo Sound" in the specs, every sound comes from the "center" (mono) channel. What's up with that? Anyone know what, if I did, I did wrong? Makes this game a lot more challenging

Edit: Even when panning the channels, the sound stays at center. I'm guessing it's not plugged correctly here... Gonna look at it. =P

Re-edit: I was correct, the speakers on which it's connected was partially plugged out somehow. Well, never mind this post

I have the same exact model, and i get full range stereo. Check your settings in half-life, if you still cant get it to work, take it back.

Well, your mistake may help someone.

Can I ask you for your microphone settings? I can barely hear myself (and neither can others, obviously) in-game.. Heck, I even sound higher-pitched than I am which is funny

And another question, not sure if you know about this one though, but is 3D positioning possible with it, or it's only left/right audio? (Front/Center/Back left/right channels with panning for better sound precision)

Uh, 3D positioning and so forth are all functions of the sound processor (viz., sound card). It has nothing to do with your headphones, since they are already 2-channel binaural.

Check what kind of speakers your soundcard thinks you have.

have the exact same headset, has made a HUGE difference in my NS enjoyment well worth the cash invested (till my 5 year old son destroys it). However i have had no problem with the stereo sound, its very noticible when playing as a skulk and turning quickly with a noise in the distance, cool effect.

I'm not sure about the current HL version, but the retail Counterstrike comes with a microphone setup program that lets you hear what you sound like to others and adjust the volume accordingly. Very handy for tweaking your setup. Check your halflife program directory for a program called 'Voice Setup', or in DOS, voice_tweak.exe in your game directory.

I'm planning on buying the Plantronics 70 or 90 headset. How do these things sound? Good, clear bass and treble?

I just bought my brother the Audio 90 for Christmas and they sound excellent. The mic is rock solid and sounds pretty damn good for how cheap the phones were. Nice and comfy, too, even after many hours of continued use. Recommended.

Just what I wanna hear. It's a late Christmas gift. My family couldn't find the headset I was looking for.

I just bought a second pair as backup. I use the 90's, they cost a tad ( I emphisize tad) more, but they are well worth the money.

Be careful if you get the plantronics headset with the band that rests on your ears and goes around the back of your head. I bought that one and it's so heavy that it doesn't rest that comfortably on the ears, on top of that, the attached microphone and its cable are somewhat flimsy, mine broke after few days of use.
