Need sounds for your map?
I have a tvcard and some divx films so i can record sounds from many films , so if any map is needed of some sounds talk to me
Don't think people can use these sounds in their maps, not sure, but i doubt it, these movies are copyrighted, so I think the copyrights protect the soundeffects aswell
DOD and WIE (War in Europe for the laymen) both got in a bit of strife for taking liberties with the Saving Private Ryan Sounds.... The original release of the DOD map omaha had all sorts of very easily recognizable clips from the movie... Dreamworks pictures almost suceeded in foxing the mod...
besides, the sounds should be original...none of this copying stuff...it's not that hard to do sound effects....with a little bit of imagination and a lot of household equipment - you can make any sound you want...
I think it depends on the length of the sample. I just spent a couple days with a Hip-Hop producer, and at least with music any sample under two bars is fair game. Maybe things are different with movies, but who knows?
Jay-Z pulled several clips from the movie "Annie" when he recorded "Hard Knock Life". I don't know, but it wouldn't surprise me if deals like Dreamworks and DoD involve lawyers that are all bark and no bite.
[edit]It certainly wouldn't be the first time I've seen lawyers win on a bluff.
Well, if the intent of the mod team is to literally infringe on copywrited material, I think that is something completely different.
I may be wrong on all this, but people are making a lot of money by using samples as elements of their artistic work. Change the pitch, alter the tempo, mix it with another sample... as I understand it, at that point it is your own artistic product.
Of course, now I'm talking about mixing beats and not designing sfx for a game. Maybe kids should just do it old-skool and grab a mic and start beating on things. That method certainly is more fun.
