Used Ps2

<div class="IPBDescription">need a lil help</div> one of my friends can hook me up with a ps2 for 50$. my question is whether i should go for it. i have heard bad things about the earlier ps2 models so i want to know what i need to look out for. any advice is welcome.

    Fifty bucks? No way, it's got to be stolen. It's best to pay the money for a new one, anyway.

    err, if its a GOOD friend whom you know wouldn't screw you (i.e. its not broken, etc) then I'd say go for it. If it is somebody who'd rip you off, then it probably is a ripoff...

    Check the back of the machine for the fan slot.
    There will be a black metal grill over it, compare it to
    a newer machine and it's the same design of grill then take it.
    If it's different then it's one of the first PS2 models and may die
    at any given time.

    My mate owns a game store and refuses to buy-in ANY PS2's with these older grills
    because they're too unpredicable and "barely last 18 months"
