Host_error:dispatchusermsg: Illegal User Msg 160

BorisBoris Join Date: 2002-12-30 Member: 11636Members
<div class="IPBDescription">weird msgs similar to above...</div> I am running a dedicated 1.03 server and I am having problems with connections from clients.

They seem to get an error msg once in a while such as:
<b>"host_error:dispatchusermsg: illegal user Msg 160"</b>
--> Or similar with a different # at the end like 224 etc.
No reports of clients doing anything "out of the ordinary" when it happens, so it is hard to figure out what may be causing the error. It happens randomly it seems(but there is always a reason...)

They are disconnected and are left with the above error. It seems to happen to some people more than others. Is this a server problem or a client problem. I'm assuming this is a problem with the server.

I am running adminmod and don't have any *extra* plugin's running.

If anyone has seen this error and has any advice on what causes it and how to remedy it, it would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I am fairly new to running dedicated servers and have limited programming background in C and scripting. So please keep responses in "English" and not computer language. Thanks a lot.

- Matt

I have a linksys(Like everyone else seems to have) 4 port. The computer running the server is connected to a Kingston Hub then to the reuter. No problems with network seen, I've ran the server before with great success, but maybe I changed some options that cause this to happen..

well, this sounds like a problem i used to get a lot when i started coding up spidermonkey. What used to cause it for me was the fact that I was <i>registering</i> client messages when I should have been looking them up. The result is that the game mod itself no longer had a valid message to use to tell a player a perfectly normal thing such as some text that should show up on their hud or that they should start shaking.

So what you might want to do is unload any metamod plugins that you don't have any faith in because they could be screwing it up.

A specific example I can cite is when bombs blew up in counter-strike with spidermonkey 0.69, the game would run absolutely flawlessly in any other respect. But if someone was close enough to get their screen shaken by the explosion then they got disconnected with a message that sounds similar to the one you're talking about

The only extra plugin's i'm running right now is *spidermonkey*(The new one you coded with the commander bug I mentioned - 'lastinv'). I had the problem before, so I don't think it is your plugin, but maybe something with admin mod. I just recently encountered another problem:

The screenshot show's what msg's I had in the client console. I was connected to my own server testing it to see how stable it was. I was doing nothing weird except biting and strafing as a skulk. NOONE else was on the server at the time.

Have you seen this before as well?

Are you connecting to your server by using your WAN address from a LAN computer? If so thats your problem. Connect using your internal ip and you won't get this problem.

I used to have this problem.

This is the same problem, and a similar error message, to the ones many of us with linksys routers are getting. Matt, I've been in contact with Linksys trying to get a solution to it.

You might have to put your router in DMZ mode. Which will allow certain types of traffic to the specific port/ip. NAT will always be the achillies heel of the internet.

Tried DMZ mode a while back. Still does it.

Im getting the same error messages, running a dmz'd Linksys 4-port.

Did anyone ever figure out the problem, is it related to the router?

I haven't heard any news on this topic...
I still see the same errors no matter what, they seem to be random though, not always @ the same point in time.
It's the same for counterstrike servers as well(Me and my brother verified this), so I am just assuming its the HLDS itself.

**Just a note about the post with the screenshot...It was determined that connecting to the server from a LINKSYS router lan through the WAN IP did in fact cause this...

This post is pretty old, but if ANYONE has come up with any NEW information about this topic, it would be awesome.

All the people with suitable CABLE connections for at least a 10 - 12 person game would love to set up a server on our LINKSYS routers. Hopefully the problem can be worked out...

Did you ever get anything determined?

PS. Does anyone out there have a WORKING, STABLE server running on a LINKSYS router (DMZ hosted, or maybe static IP on the router?)?
