just barely playable.. not very fun
Mea Culpa if this is somewhere else. FWIW, I searched diligently to avoid a dupe post.

I like to think I'm a decent commander. I'm told by most of my marines that they appreciate my commanding skills, and I guess that's all that matters when you head back to the barracks at the end of your Kharaa-killing day.

Unfortunately, as soon as I hop in the comm chair my machine's performance drops such that my mouse moves jerkily and clicks sometimes take a moment to process. It is hard to click (quickly) on a marine, and scrolling with the mouse is an unprecise affair. From what I can tell, my ping remains as it was in first person mode (~50-90). I haven't tested FPS during this behavior (I really should do that).

I sometimes fall victim to these same symptoms in first person mode when my field of view includes objects far away. That would make me think that my machine is having trouble rendering the distant objects as quickly as I expect it to. But, AFAIK, commander mode doesn't require my system to render "distant objects", does it?

Oh, another example of a symptom (very, very annoying one that really hinders my abilities as commander) that often happens when I'm commander: If I need to draw a box around several marines, I have to click, wait one second (or so yada yada), then start drawing my box. If I click and instantly start drawing my box (as would be intuitive), the click often is not recognized at all by the game, or worse yet it sometimes starts drawing my box half-way through my mouse drag (with the button depressed). ggrrrrrrr

So, let the questions/recommendations fly.

Specs:
1600+ XP Athlon
GeForce2 MX Pro (NVIDIA Detonator Drivers v41.09, but the problem spans various driver versions)
SB PCI 128 (onboard)
Gigabyte (I'm at work - it's a slow day. I don't have the model number.)
256 DDR (how much, btw, would I benefit from 512?)
XP Pro

Many thanks for any time anyone spends on this. And in case the innovative minds that created this mod are listening.. Kings to You.
