My friend needs help with AOL d/c on NS
My friend just got Natural Selection, and we got it to work once, but ever since that 1st time, his connection logs off when he is connecting to a server. We started up NS, multiplayer-internet games-update The once it was updated we found the fastest server and hit join. It goes through all the normal motions it is supposed to, when the counter says about 102 you can hear his modem disconnect, and AOL plays the Goodbye clip. Everytime we have tried this it does the same thing while it is still connecting except for the very first time, but we didn't do anything different. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix it? Thank You.

Upgrade drivers for your video card at least.
2) I don't get that with the other video options, its just that one. But that ones the only one that actually worked too so I don't know what to do.
What happened to me was.... When i got into the ready room, i would get the connection problem message. It didnt cut me off, but if i did alt tab, and started internet explorer i couldnt connect to any sites. Eventually i would get the disconnected message and the connection would drop.
Im not using AOL.
However, the problem has now gone away. I fiddled around with the cl_rate settings (modifies the rate at which you download data from the server), and also the modem_fps settings, but i dont think that should affect the connection.
I had a problem with NS, and reinstalled it, and the problem came back. Fiddled around with the settings again and eventually it went away.
When you first start playing on the servers, does it not make you download new .wav files? I dont think i get those little download bars at the bottom of my screen any more when i connect to a server, but i always got them when i first installed..... and again after reinstalling.
Elaborate please.

ok... let me try.
I found that the default setting for cl_rate was 9999(in the console), which i think is only supposed to be for LAN games. I set this to around 3000, and it seems to work ok.
I dont think modem_fps should have anything to do with this. Does it not just define the max fps when a modem is being used? I dunno...
All i can really say is, yes, i had the problem But, it went away....
