Umbra already does absolutely nothing to explosive damage or knives. Umbra only blocks bullets. Making it block 25%-40% of the damage of a grenade launcher makes Umbra more effective, not less effective.
What if umbra did reduce damage from the gl just like other weapons, but when the grenade eplodes inside of an umbra it diffuses the umbra immediately, so that gunfire (and subsequent grenades) do their regular damage. Don't know if it would work, just an idea.
Lets give the Marines a new weapon: A Snowblower! Used to remove umbra and spore clouds!

You don't get what he's saying:
