It isn't like the old days of Quake where everything was a shade of brown. Each texture has its own individual pallete. Just design it in photoshop, use Wally to paste it (it'll turn it down to 256color for you) into the WAD. Simple as pie.

Well it looked cool in photoshop, but then when i exported the jpg to a wad, it turned all nasty. The pallete that comes with Wally appears to not appreciate the color of green. Any tips?

You can tune it down to 256 within Photoshop; it'll do a smarter job of picking the colors than Wally will.

I've never had a problem with Wally's 8-bitting... in fact, I usually don't notice the difference between the 8-bit and the Photoshop pics.

I'm thinking the JPG export fux0red things. I usually Flatten Image (if there's layers), Select Canvas (ctrl + a) and then just use Wally to Paste As New. Quick and easy.

Dont even have to flatten before copy, just use "Copy Merged" when you have the entire canvas selected, then paste into wally.

Don't save it as a JPG. It will cause loss. Save it as a BMP to keep the image at it's purest quality.

I really need to read the docs on Photoshop ... or at least look at the menus more. If I had known there was a "copy merged" command, I would have saved a fair amount of time in recent projects.

    Thanks for the info.

I found Copy Merged a number of months ago for the first time. I love it to pieces.

Also, try to get a grip of:

Photoshop Actions

The stroke tool

The different layer modes (especially colour dodge)

Editing colour palettes (for those times when KFS wants a { texture with all haste! )

Ahh.... I use PSP, but layer modes are a godsend. I only started using them fully a few months ago, but they really are great. I wonder if PSP has a copy merged... it would certainly make my life easier
