and this is what it looks liek now after a few hours on worldcraft (shot taken directly from worldcraft), ive been buzzing round in commander mode and the only thing im not sure bout is the amount of space between rooms, there appears to be alot of blackness. is this a major problem? (map scale: erm, the walls on all rooms are 32 thick, so u can get an idea of the size of the map). opinions plz

edit: bear in mind i have only put one of the vents in so far, oh and there is an rp at marine start just forgot to highlight it. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

Hrm... the halls seem awfully long. Either shrink them or throw in stuff between each stretch to make them more interesting (and to block vis!).

i actually thought that myself, they are very long and very... pants.. but architecture will cover those kind of problems, if u look at the corridor between the 'North Living Quarters' and the 'North Mining Section' (use mspaint map to judge which room is which), u can see i have attempted to add a little something in middle of corridor for interest, but i will do alot more of those kind of bits along the architectural (sp?) process. and i was also thinking, i plan to have little bits of 'special' architecture in some of the big black gaps (windows looking out to rocks or something along those lines, to stick with theme), and many of them will have vents travelling through, so in theory the gaps wont appear as bad once its done.

I suggest just starting on a room, and see where your instincts lead you. Often I abandon parts of my design for what 'feels' right... I find the map turns out a lot more organic and interesting if you follow your insticts.

As KFS has mentioned, only 2 parts of Eclipse are actually based on what he originally designed.

    So just get mapping!

you know i think i might do that, as the layout atm im not impressed with.

i have a new layout idea. well basic positioning of hives and marine spawn, and then as you say i cud leave the rest up to instict.!
