Help With My 56k?

Greets, I was having major problems with DSL so I switched to the ISP's 56k plan, bought a modem and everything. Then I learned it was a WinModem, and was barely playable. Now I have a new modem, an external LAMAQQ Relaqqs with USB interface, but I cannot even play games online.. Any game. Be it DooM, StarCraft, Half-Life and its mods, Quake, nothing.

I connect at 41.2-47+ kbps, yet I have 300+ ping to everything (even to people in the same town), and sometimes disconnect for a few seconds. My download speeds are of about 5-6k/s. I have the latest official drivers, and reconfigured my settings (I believe??) according to 56k speeds.

That's about all the information I believe you need to help me figure out what the helllll is wrong I wanna plaaaay =)

That is more or less the normal speed, but seeing as I have only been with NTL (just gone from 56k to 600k ), I dont know if mine was slower.

As to the other problems, I haven't a clue. Sorry I couldnt be more help.

Yeah, 4-5k/b a second is good for modem downloads. 6 is great. So, whats the problem with playing games? That your ping is so high? Try and tweak your modem settings in windows, like turning software compression off. When i got this new computer I had some crappy AMR modem in it ( Emulated...). The pings i got with that were shite, so i put my old PCI modem in it, and it worked fine. But they say external modems are the best you can use, which is what u have ! Unless its a crappy external modem thats emulated and using your CPU to work. But thats doubful.

Try searching on google for a modem tweak guide, there are loads out there. Especially ones for gaming. You should have kept going to DSL and got that sorted

They said there was nothing to do about the DSL :[ God, does 56k suck. Thank god DSL still works at day and night times, just not in the evening. Well the problem with games is simply they don't play. It'll say Connection Accepted in HL then stay there forever, or will just work a second then disconnect in other games.
