Well it wasn't as if you had much of a choice in the elections was it? Poor choice of candiates and the far out vote scandale leading to you getting one of the few presidents of the United States to win the election by lottery. Or dictate by a judge if you like to call it so.
Okay, by now, I guess everyone knows that things have changed quite a bid. Most people across seem to be sure that this war will happen no matter what and I have to admit, I think that as well. Just some minutes ago I saw some "more" reports on the current situation and if I was to believe the media Powell just said that they will not even try to get a go from the UN anymore. Even Blair seems to have accepted the fact that he will have to use the British troops without UN approval eventhough it will probably cost his head.
To say the truth, I am afraid. Not of this war or the possible results, although I'm sure they will be bad, very bad. What I am really afraid of is that the most powerful nation of the world with the most powerful army and an arsenal of nuclear weapons to wipe out the Solar System does not care about what the rest of the world thinks. They seem to be going their way no matter what. Now, I don't want to start another US bashing, I'm only saying that I am very worried.
I am sure, that the US government only does what it thinks is right. I will even grant that economical gain is not the driving force behind this war. I can accept that they truly believe Iraq to be a threat to the world, maybe even the worst at this moment. I just cannot accept that they will do what they think is right while the rest of the world does not think the same. Sure, everyone has to do what he thinks is right, but you can't simply ignore everyone else or you're not much more than fanatic.
I don't know what will happen after this war, especially when it happens without UN approval as it seems most likely right now, but I don't think it will be good. Tell me what you think, after all this thread is about "other wars to come" as well...

Us useing our troops without the UN is nothing new. Us shamelessly throwing our weight around so a few extra bucks can be made is nothing new. The fact that this situation is in the public eye makes it "special" but it is not.
Yeah Immacolata you re right. Thats because the whole political System suxx... And Messiah... If you check out the contracts of oil fields in iraq, you will see NONE is for U.S. You will find russian, french, chinese and a few more. This will change after an US and British occupation of Iraq. And US and british Oil Companies will make a huge gain and profit from this. Not Iraq, neither US or british or whatever citizens. The whole WhiteHouse is involved in oil. *click* BUT, of course, this war isnt only about the oil. Its deepest target is China. China is after the fall of the Soviet Union the only NAtion that could resist further US "interests". Thats why the next target will be N.Korea. You could go and read following N.Korean Side Story of the Nuclear Issue: N.Korean Brief History (from N.Korean View) For 50 years N.KOrea has been focused by the US. Its an unsinkable AirCarrier, like any Island. And after Middle East and N.KOrea you got China in a very good situation...
And of course US are doing what they think is right. And you know why? Cause in our sucking society, instead of helping eachother we re fighting eachother. It doesnt matter anymore if today its the Us who wanna rule the world as they please, or a few years ago it was Hitler or the ancient Roman Empire... It doesnt matter, cause if for example Spain had the same force as Us it will do exactly the same. Each Country looks only its interests, not if something is good or evil, moral or honourable. This is the sad thing. Lets hope for a better future and that there be innocent Blood spilled as little as possible...
For the last time, this war isn't about oil. The US has nothing to gain by attacking Iraq for Oil. Usuing our miltary, rebuilding it, and waiting 3 years for it to become avalible is NOT profitable. If the US wanted Iraq's oil, they would just buy it, and get it for rediciously cheap prices. Just like France, China, Russia, and Germany is doing. None of them are honoring the U.N. resolution to embargo Iraq.
Which brings me to my next point, which is really sad.
The *peace* policy proclaimed by such country's that oppose the war all have "vital" economic claims in Iraq. For example, Germany, France, Russia, China, all sell weapons to Iraq at four times their normal value. Also, whatever oil Iraq can manage to drill is sold for rediciously cheap prices as well. Most of Europe is taking advantage of the **** position Iraq is in, by completely exploiting their country.
And, this money that goes to "Iraq" goes directly to Saddam, who will use the money however he sees fit. Now, I ask, how much do you trust this man? Are you really foolish enough to believe this money is going to constructive purposes?
Saddam is a threat, as the entire U.N. pointed out when it gave an anonymous vote on resolution 1441. Enough ****.
The idea that the US is going to war for economical purposes makes as much sense as me killing my teacher for good grades. War has not, cannot, and will not make an economy better past a certain point.
I believe that the U.S. intentionally took a hard-line stance against Iraq to threaten them and pressure the world into achieving the compromise of complete disarmament... and only go to war at an actual last resort.
Do none of you remember when even the first U.N resolution (which analysts predicted to have good support) was just an option for the U.S.? Instead, the U.S. danced about the issue, making press releases toying with the idea of invading Iraq without U.N. support, and "testing the waters" to see how many countries would support them in doing so.
Even afterwards, the U.S. has had a, in my opinion, carefully choreographed influx of troops into Kuwait, and planned demonstrations like the greater-than-daisy-cutter bomb to scare Iraq. These things have worked; they've made Iraq reveal and destroy banned missiles, and allow inspectors many concessions.
It doesn't make sense for the U.S. to actually fight the war... there have been huge demostrations against it, abroad and in here--the polls have been going down; countries have been very reluctant to provide support or military help (e.g. bases); the war is costly, in a time when budget deficits are being forecasted... France et al are justified in their criticism, the U.S. knows it, but wants to bluff Iraq into compliance.
AHAHAHAHA Look Forlorn, I didnt say its only about oil, ok? Its about Israel its about Middle East its about Oil and its about China. So, now you have it all together and let me add one more thing: US expansionism. I agree with you about the Interests thing u say about Fr, Ger and so on. So, its kinda sad that you say US aint like that, saddam s a threat and the following buIIshIt. And before you attack my "lack of information" dude, know that most wars are fought because of $$$$$. And if Saddam is a threat then Bush is a greater one. And if you think US will "rebuild" and "free" Irak, look at Afganistan and Serbia. Here's some more fodder for the flames:
(from msnbc news) BUSH ADDRESSED the nation from the White House to lay out the challenge to Saddam, who has vowed not to leave, and explain why he was intent on a military solution after the United States, Britain and Spain abandoned their efforts to win U.N. support for war. “Events in Iraq have reached a final stage,” Bush said. “... The Iraqi regime continues to possess and conceal some of the most lethal weapons ever devised.” While Bush said “we believe in the United Nations,” he said the U.N. Security Council had failed to “show resolve. The United Nations Security Council has not lived up to its responsibilities, so we will rise up to ours.” “This danger will be removed,” Bush said, claiming full authority under previous U.N. resolutions to remove Saddam from power. “This is not a question of authority,” he said. “It is a question of will. ... The tyrant will soon be gone.” Bush gave Saddam and his sons 48 hours to leave the country, a clock that officials later said began ticking when the president started speaking at 8 p.m. ET. A refusal to do so, Bush said, “will result in military conflict, commenced at a time of our choosing.” “Liberation is near,” the president declared in his 11-minute address, delivered in a subdued but determined voice. The ultimatum means the United States and its allies intend to go it alone in Iraq after they shelved a draft resolution that would have paved the way for U.N. authorization for military action. Diplomats concluded that they could not get nine of the 15 members of the Security Council to sign on to a new resolution, which France had said it would veto anyway. Fearing the possibility of reprisals, the Homeland Security Department told state officials that it would raise the nation’s terror threat assessment to “orange,” or high, shortly after Bush’s speech.
Looks like the **** has SERIOUSLY hit the fan this time. It's no wonder that "elite" + 666 = 2003, or we wouldn't have this and the new matrix movie in the same year.
I just skimmed through most of this thread and was contemplating posting my thoughts.
But holy God, I have never seen so many people make a stink about something that they are totally uneducated on. *chuckles* So, I guess all I got out of this was the reaffirmation of the fact that 99% of the people that oppose the war have no idea what they're talking about. All I hear is "oil", "unfair", "America can't police the world", "peace peace peace", and the like. It's disturbing that people don't even bother to read into the deeper issues at work here and would rather jump on the bandwagon started by the brain dead left wing celebraties.
Therefore, to not confuse the afformentioned type of poster, I will keep this brief: This war is not about fairness. This war is not about oil. This war is not about America policing the world. THIS WAR IS ABOUT DETERANCE.
Ten years ago, Iraq's invasion of Kuwait was repelled (I'm overly simplifying here, stick with me). THAT WAR NEVER ENDED. A cease fire was declared, and Iraq basically surrendured their rights to the UN. One of the terms of the cease fire was that Iraq would have to disarm, with full compliance given to UN inspectors. This has not happened. Iraq has been given multiple chances, yet continues to play games.
Imagine what some future third world dictator would think. He thinks about invading his neighbor, then thinks of the consequences. If he thinks he'll just receive a slap on the wrist from the UN and that's it, what's to stop him? But if he realizes that there are serious consequences for that kind of behavior, he'll probably think twice before doing something that would endanger himself.
I mean, sure, it'd be NICE if war could be avoided. That goes without saying. But this isn't an option if Iraq does not abide by the rules.
And for the love of god, if someone even says "war on terror" when talking about Iraq, I'm going to kill that person. People use that buzzword so often that it's lost all meaning, especially when you're trying to instill fear about the American government. Urgh.
I didn't mean to go off on a rant, but I'm glad I did.
Thanks BabyGirl. Im not very good with words but you summed things up nicely.
There was one other issue that you missed that I would like to sound in on.
"If we attack we are going to make other terrorists mad at us and then they will attack more and more people will hate us."
That is the funniest thing I have ever heard. We are already hated, hated to the point that 9/11 did happen. If you think for one second that by not going after Iraq that we would be suddenly loved or forgiven you are deluting yourselves. We have to take out the problem one at a time to ensure minimal losses until we have removed the threat completely. Is that possible? I think so. The next thing you say "There is no proof that he helps terrorists" YOU dont have any right to see any proof of anything. That is left in the hands of the Government, CIA, FBI and such. If we knew what they knew we probably wouldn't be able to sleep at night.
alright now I gone on too much.

I was keeping myself out of this thread because I thought everything was said, but there are some things to be made clear, not because of my opinion, but because of my position as moderator:
All negative statements that are aimed at another discussing persons or groups education, morale, or intelligence are considered insults and thus prohibited.
Yes, this includes statements like "I have never seen so many people make a stink about something that they are totally uneducated on." Insulting others is no basis for a discussion.

The actual invasion will probably be tonight or several days later, depending on the wheater, which has improved. Anyways, 17 Iraqi soldiers crossed the border and surrendered to American soldiers.
