LOOOOOOL @ closing a door on it does that hurt? the computer-driven doors on Nancy are great fun <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
If you see an onos in open ground then your buggered full stop. Unless you have a jetpack or are out of reach, only a complete n00b as an Onos is going to fail to take out anything up to 5 marines (in light armour) in open ground a narrow corridor is worse because it can charge you all down. Where someone said earlier how they strafe jumped around and onos, well that Onos obviously didn't have clue what he was doing otherwise he would have chewed you up.
I would have to agree that the Shotgun seems to the most effective weapon probably because like someone else said earlier the onos doesn't realise he should run until it's to late due to the pause between shots. I've taken a few of the buggers down shortly before the base got swamped. In an ideal world you would want at least 3 marines in heavy armour and armed with hmgs to effectively take one down fast. Nothing can go one on one with and Onos unless the Onos is a n00b.
Off hand though I can recall only one game where there was an onos or 2 and the marines managed to pull it back from 3 hives to 2 hives that required some stupid aliens, a stuck onos and lots of marines in heavy armour. Ninty nine percent of the time if you see an onos it will be in you base sourrounded by lerk spores, bile bombs, exploding skulks, babblers and dead marines.
i dont know if anyone mentioned it, but THE way to kill a base attacking onos is described in my post. i think its name is sth like : "advanced mine tactics","offensive/defensive mining"
the onos will have a chance near 0 to survive... <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

Just make sure you fly with short bursts, always strafing, and they'll never hit you. Circle around him with shotgun or even the welder and down he goes.
But the worse problem for killing onos IS the fades that usually accompany him. A lone onos is not as strong as you think. But dodging acid rockets an bile bombs while you do try to get him... ugh..
I usually strafe left and right to avoid them from biting me. IF I can get onto a a high area I'll shoot them from above and since they don't have a rnaged attack I can kill them easy. The best equitment to fight onos is jetpack hmg or grenade launcher. they can't hurt you if they can't reach you! <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
