Vac In Ns 1.1

PLEASE DON'T!!!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

I emplore you not to include VAC with NS 1.1

You know how you hear about all these people getting those net_connect errors when they play CS. It's VAC's fault and their recent attempt to fix it failed. The first thing that i thought about when i played NS was, OMG!!! I can play for more than 15 minutes without getting net_connect errors.

Please don't implement VAC until the Dial Up Net_connect issue has been resolved. I emplore you, dialing up every time you get disconnected becomes an expensive practice after a while. That is why i stopped playing DoD and CS, the costs being racked up was starting to become excessive.

Be 95% sure that VALVe has fixed the net_connect issue first =(

Apart from that extra addin, Supremo work on NS guys. Keep it coming and please please please don't do a Q3TF on us. Q3TF was good until they decided to stuff around with the game balances (they reached a good point then they decided to push it furthur). No-one plays Q3TF anymore. More people play Quake 1 TF then they do Q3TF.

Keep up the good work

I was on the test team for it :/

Many of the changes for beta 2 were against the recommendations of the test team, and i was really dissapointed with the final result. However, b2 can't really be blamed for the death of Q3F, the community was starting to dwindle out even before it was released, during the year long period with no updates. B2 just kind of pushed it over the edge.

By that point it had become less about making a playable game and more about making an impressive portfolio piece though.

only one good thing that VAC does is to remove the "wall-strafe" glitch that makes you run faster.

First, Flayra will finish 1.04. Then, he'll start working on 1.1. I'm faithful Valve will be able to get VACs glitches sorted out before it's being included.

When you die in game, you don't respawn, you just go to a special room with everybody else and tell newbies how in your day you had to fight off skulks with sticks, and the skulks where 500 times larger, and you youngsters have it so good with your "automatic pistoliers" and "seige catapults", why in my day ZZZZZZZZZZZ

From I've heard, VALVe is revamping all the anticheat system for next HL update, so hopefully when NS 1.1 comes out will be a lot better.

VAC could not be perfect but is far better than nothing. VAC dind't stopped all the cheat(ers) in CS/DoD but cutted out a lot of them.

    That's a rather generalized assumption...

Though, I admit, everytime someone posts something like "Don't take out this, it's not that bad", I get the feeling that people have learned to play a certain way, and if their "tricks of the trade" are removed, they'd have to actually learn the rest of the game.

With or without it, fine by me. Fair play is the only play, wall strafing is so last year.

VAC actually does block the wallhacks to a degree. It prolly works equally good to HLGuard so it's actually useful.
  • AphonAphon Join Date: 2002-12-04 Member: 10442Members
doesnt VAC lag a lot too? i think ive heard that. lowers fps and increases pings
  • Teufel_EldritchTeufel_Eldritch Join Date: 2002-01-28 Member: 124Members
Well I another reason NOT to add VAC is the fact that if you do CD(Cheating Death) wont work anymore. CD is far better than VAC imo. Plz plz plz plz do not add the VAC.
  • BrutusBrutus Join Date: 2002-10-20 Member: 1555Members
VAC does not cause lag or FPS drop.

When Valve updates VAC, all secure servers receive it. When Vadakill and I were running a CS server, we had to restart HLDS_L every time they did that. In the mean time it wasn't letting anyone connect...annoying is what it was. I wonder if they even bothered fixing that yet...probably not.
  • p4Samwisep4Samwise Join Date: 2002-12-15 Member: 10831Members
It's not worth whining at the NS team not to include VAC, since it's still up to the server operator whether they have it enabled or not. If you like Cheating Death better than VAC, use it on your server and stop bitching.

Personally, I think it's great that Valve is doing something to smite the aimbotters.

You know, reading through this topic reminds me a little of those educational movies in the 70s where girls said stuff like "But I heard the pill will make my head explode!".

As of now, Valve didn't willingly screw HL up. I'm faithful they won't try now, either.

Then use VAC. The client requirements for CD are annoying.

BOTH of them can be subverted by clever cheaters, so what difference does it make?

Why in my day we didn't have these newfangled "Phase gate" thingamabobers, we had to walk FIFTEEN MILES UPHILL IN THE SNOW to reach the Alien Hive!

You had the karra make their own hives? You had it easy. In my day we had to grow our own, hives, then throw rocks at them.

You had Kharaa in your day? Luxury.
In my day we had to build our own hives out of muck we found on the road, then kill ourselves any time we bumped into it.
