So, I see lots of critisism on hallways, people commenting that there is a lack of cover. I ask, cover from what? There are no CS like firefights. The aliens need to get teh drop, comming out of the tunnels and such. The marines need to walk freely, covering each other, being each other's cover. So, I ask, what am I missing? What is the importance of cover?

Cover is just as important in an NS map as in a CS map, and maybe even more so. Aliens don't always attack out of the vents. If they did that, it would just get a little boring. The ability to hide behind the various structural details that can provide them cover is very important for the aliens. Further, if an alien tries to attack a marine in a hallway, but unexpectedly finds himself outnumbered, he has zero chance of survival without something to try and dodge behind while running away. Also, some aliens do have ranged attacks, and marines do appreciate ducking back where it's safe. Then there's the leapfrog tactic that marines can perform, which is just a few marines successively moving from the back to the front, always getting behind cover. And besides, it just looks cooler if there are structures and supports jutting out and blocking the view.

Turrets will massacre aliens if there's no cover. Think of the turret-avoiding scenarios in AvP1's Alien missions, where you had to find alternate routes to get around the damned things.

if they did that, it would be AVP!

Yama: You had to take alternet routes...or Turn on GOD MODE, BWHAHAHAHAA....or just run REALLY Fast past them and tailwhip them as you move.
one tail whip, gun out of comission..and if you moved around fast enough, they couldn't lock onto you.
