<div class="IPBDescription">lingo</div> Hey guys this is a retarted request I know but I hop into alot of games and people use some lingo, Most I know already, that I do not understand. So probably for the first time, List all the lingo words and describe what they are. Such as 1337 is leet which is short for elite. Stuff like that. I know this is a stupid request but for alot of newbies (including myself) it would create a better understanding of the lingo we use ingame.

OC = offense chamber
MC = movement chamber
RT - resource tower
TF = turret factory
CC = command console
IP = infantry portal
And so on. Some you rarely see, instead seeing one-name abbreviations for locations and objects.
Nozzle (or nozz) for "Resource Nozzle" (rarely RN)
Sensory for "Sensory Chamber" (rarely SC)
Power or Silo for "Power Silo Hive"
Via for "Great Viaduct Hive"
Spawn for the Marine spawn
String these together, drop some verbs and you might see
"Cargo hive unsafe. TF turrets phase siege."
"Enemy phase siege vent above via help now plz"
Which leads to other acronyms and abbreviations. Many are either the initial letters of words of phrases, as in...

rofl
Which are common enough not to need explanation. There are also the words with the vowels removed for terseness...

Game-specific words include...
noob (or variants, for a newbie, or someone acting like one)
llama (for lamer, anyone doing anything lame)
aimbot (typically an accusation any time someone is a good player)
bunny-hopper (or b-hopper, someone bunny-hopping)
Most of the chatter is actually intelligible even if it's completely improper English.
"OMFG enemy via hive. Phase up. How soon hive 2? Need Fades. As soon as hive up drop MCs."
To truly mimic this lingo, type really fast and don't correct any spelling errors.
Good example:
"Fades."
This tells you more than "The aliens have Fades." It also tells you:
* The aliens have 2 hives
* Gorges now have web
* Lerks have umbra
* Skulks have leap
* They probably have Def and Mov chambers
* This means Carapace/Regen and Adren/Celerity
Knowing all this allows you to change tactics and evaluate your own tech status. Do the marines have Heavy Armor and HMGs yet? Do they hold the third hive? Etc.
And you know all that from a single word - "Fades."
Other words or short phrases that can easily describe and sum up a whole series of conditions and circumstances include:
"Onos"
"HA HMG"
"Jetpacks"
"GL"
"Siege"
Understanding not only what the words mean, but what that tells you about the entire game, is crucial to winning NS.

WP = Welder Please?
Getting important vents welded up tight is often impossible because of the communication thing. Comm's never trust that you'll use it effectively, or even stay alive for that matter... they have good reason to believe this, since most people don't realize that they are expensive and that walking over one in base doesnt mean just run out into battle and die with it.
if somebody does know how to say "WP" then a comm should take a sec to see who is in base asking for one.
i have to make 2 things as clears as possible with this though... don't say WP early game & and don't say WP if you can't get to base to pick it up easily and don't say WP if you are not planning on using it effectively.
nope, in NS WP means Waypoint. Asking for a Waypoint in your base is better than asking for one after leaving, it's easier to find you while you're in-base (but anyone can use the commander I'm standing by command, it's bindable without even knowing an impulse, for pete's sake (it's bound to my z button)!)
I use it to request waypoints, or to yell at my idiotic rambo marines to go to their waypoints instead of chasing that skulk that they might have seen out of the corner of their eye that might run off somewhere and stand still so he can shoot it before it kills him. [/rant]
When I want a welder, I say I want a welder.
gl spam = its version 1.04(beta) and the comms passing out GL's, somebody says this and you know your gonna have a hellova time getting into thier base.
farm, or turret farm= turret factory and turrets, usually to cover a resource node or captured hive.
cap or "drop a cap"= to cap a resource nozzle with using a gorges resource tower or for a commander to drop a resource tower for marines to build.
motion or "we need motion"=highly demanded marine upgrade to track alien moveemnts.
res= resources, heavies=heavy armor+HMG, and many many more which i cant remember.
One term i have a problem with is "Spam"

With the over-usage of something, the term spam was used to describe it (probably some PO'ed llama who couldn't kill the skilled veteran wasting him with the same gun over and over again). To spam means to dump a lotta something. Whether it be in a small area (spamming the messhall means shooting a lot), or the same gun being dropped (in the case of NS, "oh no! they're spamming heavies! Find those RNodes and crush'em!")
There are other examples as well. It takes on new meanings as time goes on. It could even lose meanings.
Take **** as a good example of a word completely ill-used (by some people). How about faggot? What about fairy, even? Those can all be slanderous, but that's not their only meaning. No need to get so mad about spam being used <u>differently</u>
