Great Game

Lerk Army wins the game
So I was Gorging in a game with the Viaduct and Powersilo hives, early game Marines had taken Silo and we were moving toward Viaduct. I built the Hive, but soon after a large group of Marines rush us and build HUGE defenses, PG, TF, SC. . . Nothing we could do was making any effect against the huge defense and MANY people were saying its F4 time. I go Skulk and crawl up onto the catwalk above the Hive area. There I went Gorge and built all the OC's and DC's I could. Their SC couldn't hit the Chambers because they were above its max height range. Using this base, we launched a hugh Lerk attack using about 7-8 Lerks. We quickly overran their defenses and got the Hive up again.

We later took back Silo and slaughtered the Marines. And I'm sure anyone who was there will say it was a great game.

heh cool stuff man, I wish i was there when it happened, im starting to like the lerk more and more now it seems. I had a game similar to that. It was on that level with the lunch room in it, and it was the hive that has the big block in the middle of it anyways a gorge i duno how the hell he managed to survive up there but he built a mini base up there WHILE the dumb marines were building a base of there own down below. While the gorge builds like two oc's and dc's and a movement chamber. Then the biggest sulk rape i have ever seen happens as skulk after skulk rains down death upon the FOUR ha's that were there, suffice to say we raped them and took back our hive. Man I wish I could play more games where the aliens dont bother morphing but stay in a tight pack of like 9 skulks with cara moving over the map as a wave of death that no marines can take out.

What I'm seeing more and more is, once the 2nd hive goes up everyone goes Fade except for the gorge(s) and all the little fades get owned by the HA+HMG Team rounding the corners. It appears I'm just about the only one in the server fully aware of the capabilities of Umbra. Christ, I'll go lerk and you get me 2 Fades and any marine base/extension will be gone in a few minutes.

On Nothing, behind the Viaduct there is this inbetween room that can only be reached by vents called the Redroom (I think, otherwise I'm just making it up) now what the marines did was MOVE their base up into this room with the aid of jetpacks. They placed a few sieges down and it was impossible to build our 3rd hive. However this meant that the marines were basically confined to the redroom and anyone who got out was soon eaten.
Once again, it seemed that everyone thought that Fades were the best evolution for the job. WRONG Fades are useless in vent situations. This scenario happened twice (Same comm) in 2 different rounds and here are the 2 solutions to the "Stubborn marines base in the vents" problem
1.) EVERY Kharaa player goes Skulk, with Carapace and Celerity upgrades. Get everyone outside the vents, give them the word, rush the marines and eat as much as you can. Repeat until dead (Marines have no resources seeing how they are in a vent, so its very very hard for them to rebuild)
2.) EVERY Kharaa player goes Lerk, with Carapace and Adrenaline upgrades. Everyone goes outside, fly up. half of the lerks umbra, the other half start chomping. Works wonders.

[VsE]Marine!, your bases in the vent days are soon over

ahhh, finanaly people are coming around to the true power of the lerk. and its not just about umbra, its that a lerk is the faster and most mobile khraa, and pack a mighty powerful punch when biting a 'rine. not only that but hit and run tatics are amazing since you can fly down bit a 'rine and be gone by the time his vision gets back to normal, and just keep doing it. Marines are useless against a good lerk, a bit of umbra and a few bites and even the best can't bring you down.

Hehe who needs fades? Give me a lerk and umbra and I'll take down any outpost I come across. Besides, it's quicker than trying to explain to the fades that 'the yellow stuff will protect you from bullets, so let's go'. Not even HA marines are safe, unless they're carrying a welder. I've had some good aerial battles with jetpack marines carrying shotguns too. But the best thing is chasing a marine with a jetpack through the vents - the speed at which you can cross a huge distance is fantastic. And people are suggesting taking the bite away?

I do actually have one umbra question though - are you only protected when you're in the umbra, or will it stop bullets passing through to the other side too?

AFAIK the bullets do not get stopped when passing through the umbra cloud.

I know this isnt realistic but...
that's just how it works.

It does not stack, either.

Not realistic? Heck, no cloud of gas I've ever heard of can stop bullets for something _IN_ them either In fact not a lot about the kharaa seems realistic. Does it matter? nah.

Its silly, whenever a bunch of fades attack a base (I'm lerk) and I come to umbra them, they get a sudden fear of bullets from the marines charging. They run to the def chambers and whos the only one left vs three HA/MGs (they walked thru the cloud)? Me. If the Fades stayed they could have kick HA ****. Dumb fades.

It's hard enough explaining to fades what umbra does. Then you try explaining to them that you're going to umbra that tfac or phase, and you want them to run (or blink if they can) into the umbra, and take it down.

Me: "You got that?"
Them: "Yes, yes, stop going on"
Me: "Okay, doing it now".
*I fly over to the tfac/phase, and cast umbra*
*I watch the fades sitting in the corridor, acid rocket spamming*
*I sigh, and start to bite down the tfac or phase*
*A group of HA/HMG come through the phase*
Them: "HAR!"
Me: "Uh...hi guys..."
*Watch the fades run off*

At this point I usually make a break for it. Sometimes I'll make it, sometimes I won't. If one of the fades dies, I will usually get asked why I stopped umbra-ing them. At this point, I bugger off and let them do their thing, and try to take stuff down on my own .

yes for sure, dont underestimate the power of the lerk.
Oh yea and that Red room is great for sieging Vent Hive, but yea u need some 1 with JP. Good place for PG, CC IP. Have had to build CC once or twice down 2 hives and we managed to come back and win, a hour and a half later.

Lerk = god!

Was funny, as we were on eclipse, and I was a lerk, supporting a fade at their main base.

They had fortified CC very well, so we thought, 'sod that, go for the main base' - as that was where they ahd arms/proto, etc.

Well, basiclly, the fade I was supporting died cause he ran backwards from a HA HMG guyd and got shot.

It was gr8 fun, cos I just opened the door, spiked people and stayed in my umbra cloud!

It is SOOOO funny seeing HMG LAs charging this lowly lerk and then getting bitten to death while firing IN the umbra!

Several tried to knife/weld me, but I was able to bite them to death first!

I even took down 3 HAs with spike/bite/umbra!

The marines got SO **** off at this stupid little flying thing at their dorr, that 4 charged me with welders!!!, alas I couldnt kill them , and they got me

Good thing was, while I was keeping them busy, the fades had gotten CC back, and so when I re-spawned, I just went and killed em all!

V fun game, and don't forget, with umbra, a lone lerk CAN take out lots of marines, as long as they are on their own.

A one hive lerk can take out a large group of marines (use carapace) - you really need to watch your energy, though. I had a great moment on tanith (I think) where I flew in to a group of 5 marines. Instead of keeping on 'jousting' them as I often do I fluttered around their heads. I bit 3 of them, and one died from recieving two bites (then had one armour upgrade) and falling down a lift shaft . I then ran out of energy and dropped like a stone in front of the last marine. Fortunately, he ran out of bullets when I was on 5 health, and I managed to make it through a door. Through this door came a skulk, who killed him . I then ran very, very fast back to the hive, praving that I wouldn't meet anyone on the way .

Jetpack marines think they are the hot stuff. I owned 2 of them in a row in midair combat near the sewer hive in Caged. I also informed them of their owned status

I was once marine and the aliens tried that tactic. We had an enormous turretfarm in the hive, and there were aliens on the catwalk... they kept coming! We kept killing them, and more and more lerks came. Couldn't figure it out for the life of me D:
