Terrain Texture Sounds

Need to change one
As i understand it the texture you place on a brush determines what sound you make when walking on it. I have a custom grass texture I need to use extensively in my next project ns_genesis, but it currently sounds like walking on metal. How can I change it and release it so it sounds correctly to everyone? I already found the nifty materials.txt file but I can't seem to get it to work correctly for me. I tried adding the texture with the correct sound flag but nothing happened. Could I possibly distributed a batch file with my map changing this materials file to add the line of the texture i need to add a sound for?

On that topic. As I understand it; there isd no way to parse to the materials.txt file to include custom textures. So, is there a way to add new textures without screwing up the exsisting game? Could you do it with abatch file or somthing? Imo, this is a real weakness to HL. It needs the abillity to have a custom materials file for each map.

You change the materials.txt file, you get an angry mob bearing pitchforks and torches knocking at your door.

Rename the texture to one already entered in materials.txt in the style you want.

But wouldn't that, wait a sec, I take it what ever textures that you use the names of (eg: custom ones) would have to be included in the map. Therefore, overridding the other textures(in the wad files) when the map is loaded?

That's why you rename it to match a texture you aren't using.

hl never changes the materials.txt, it just reads from it.

You could change the materials.txt, but thats a bad idea, because it affects the material sounds of ALL NS maps. there is just one txt for all ns maps.
Better change the names of your custom textures to textures that are already in the materials.txt of ns.
