Non-cs Installation Problem

<div class="IPBDescription">(MY GOD)</div> Well, I had half-life before, but I lost it and just came back right. So heres what I do, I buy a new half-life BOX, install it, get the patch install the patch, get NS, try to install NS, NS says I don't have the patch, ok look on this site, us the dummy exe, install NS, try to play NS, NS complains I don't have patch, ignore that cause I do have patch, try to get into a game, says protocol error, whatever the hell that is, so I look here again, and they say to get the 1.3 patch, I do that, and I still get the same bull****. Or is says I don't have the right version of NS or HL or some crap every time. I've been working on this for like 2 hours and it's starting to **** me off, especially since I've wanted to play NS for like a year now and havn't been able to.
Problems I can see, maybe I got a faulty HL patch, but I canNOT get it from fileplanet with it's hour wait crap (maybe I'll do it tomorrow morning.) Other then that I am completly confused.
