<div class="IPBDescription">hadta ask, I'm impatient :)</div> The 1.04e changelog posted here:

<a href='http://forums.joe.to/viewtopic.php?t=7077' target='_blank'>http://forums.joe.to/viewtopic.php?t=7077</a>

mentions:

<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Added ability for guides to send hint tooltips to individual players (type "gtt" (Guide ToolTip) at console if you're a guide for usage) <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

What exactly is this and how is it used? I'm guessing we can send little tips to our fellow players (the n00bs) as we play or maybe stretch it to like some sort of private message? Does the server have to annoint us as a 'Guide' somehow?

    I guess it's the ability for official "Natural-Selection Guides" (mostly former playtesters, they wear the [NSGuide]-Tag in their name) to send special hints/help-messages to individual players. These hints will most likely look like normal tooltips, perhaps with a caption like "[NSGuide]humbaba wrote you:" or something like this...
    I could link you to <a href='http://guides.readyroom.org' target='_blank'>http://guides.readyroom.org</a> but as you all know, ReadyRoom.org is down untill further notice...

    ACtually, he's either securing his companie's servers from hackers, or having his honeymoon in a scottish castle.

    Where has that crazy marine sys-admin gone?

    This is only for [NSGUIDE]'s?

    Bummer because I've played a ton of NS and I've never seen one. On the other hand I constantly play with n00bs.

    Maybe the # of NSGUIDE's will increase? They should have some sort of test you can take to qualify for it <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    If you ever see someone with a green HA icon next to their name, you've found an NS Guide. The Guide Tool Tip function allows a guide to send any player on the server a "private message," which shows up on their screen as a tooltip. It's a nice way for us guides to give people individual attention.

    I think it'd be nice if one could designate their own guides for their own server. Or is this the whole concept here? =P

    Guides are hard-coded by WON ID into NS itself, and can turn on their Guide icon and use GTT on any server. Needless to say, something like the GTT could be abused, but the Guides themselves are very carefully selected for their better-than-average online gaming ethics. There was even talk at one point of giving guides the ability to kick, slap, and even change maps, but it was decided that admins wouldn't appreciate it (even if "allow_guide_powers" were a server variable that defaulted to 0). *shrug* I like being able to help out the occasional newbie. (:

    Umm, I'm glad that wasn't implemented.

    Wait.. server admins don't fall under this category? Or is that little green arrow and server icon on the scorebaord equal to NS-GUIDE?

    That icon is server admins only. NS Guides have a different one, personally, I have no idea what it is <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    It looks like an HA marine.

    Flayra == Dev (Duh)
    Joker == Guide
    Zag == Playtester
    SWAT == Server Admin
    This is an example, some names were changed to protect identities.
