Clan Play Vs Pub Play

<div class="IPBDescription">balance issues...</div> I see a lot of talk on how some changes will really help balance clan play, but they do horrendous things to pub play. The opposite is also true as well.

Instead of trying to balance the game in ONE way, why not make a separate set of balance calculations for balance that are enabled when 'tournament mode' is enabled? That way clan plan won't screw up pub play and vice versa.

    What about the ppl that have evolved there tactics on pub play...

    Then join a clan and go into tournament play...

    All of a sudden that player suxx0rs depending on the changes.

    I don't think it would be that big a deal. Once the initial calulations are done, then it's just a matter of tweaking them.

    As for switching from pub to clan play, there already IS a big difference even if the basics are the same. A clan team will behave VERY differently than a pub team. You don't get rambos or people doing their own thing. Everyone works together. So anyone playing a clan team has to adjust their habits from pub play ANYWAY.

    Frankly it would be easy for a clan player to adapt.

    The problem is that if we balance NS for clan players, then we ALIENate (bad pun, I know) the pub players that make up 90% of the servers out there.

    It's not different from what most clans in other mods do now. They all have their own 'rules' on things you can't and can't do, even if they are in thge game. (eg, in TFC some clans ban chasing by offense, but on the pubs there is no reason you can't do it.)

    The reason we can't really do this in NS is because these variables (like cost of fade) are not set by server operators, and thus affect all games.

    I really don't want to see aliens or marines (depending on where the 'clan balance' ends up) win 90% of games because the programmers have balanced the game for clan play and it is completely unbalanced for pub play. I don't want to see the opposite either.

    That's why I think my idea is a good compromise.
