The Ping Of Doom

I know this has been discussed before, but I want to discuss it again.

When the aliens lose their last hive, the Ping Of Death starts and any aliens that can't find a way to constantly heal themselves are dead, and it's just a matter of time for the others. I know this was done to prevent a lone alien hiding out somewhere and preventing the game from ending, but there must be a better way of dealing with it.

Even if the aliens have loads of resource points and enough res to build a new hive, it is still effectively game over as soon as the last hive is gone. I still feel that the aliens should be given some way of making a comeback and the Ping Of Death should only start when, for example, the hives are gone and all the aliens have no resource towers left, or maybe give them 5/10 minutes to attempt a rebuild before the Ping starts.

On other hand, there is no equivalent for the marines. I was playing a game last night where the marine base was wiped out but the last surviving marine had found somewhere to hide. Why don't the marines get a Ping Of Death the moment the last Command Chair is gone?

I hope this is changed in a future release, as I feel it is flawed at the moment (although as I said, I entirely understand the reasoning behind it).

marines need one hive for a 50/50 situation, aliens need 2.
If aliens have 0 hives there is NO way to get back 2 hives.
Marines that have 0 hives and a death base CAN get back one hive + cc.

I was playing a game last night as aliens on Nothing. We'd lost, but one gorge had gone as a skulk into the red vent room near viaduct and built loads of OCs and DCs. An admin told him either to attack or get slayed as he (the admin) didn't have all night. In that situation, the 'ping of death had no effect; if someone wants to prolong the game, they will do.

I think, for safetys sake, until we can make sure theres an admin on every server, the ping of death will have to stay. I don't particulary like it, but it should stay.

Re: marines, the only thing I can think of is if there are no IPs or CCs built or un-built, a marine should show up on scent of fear whether hes injured or not.

TBH however, with the speed and mobility afforded to aliens, they can scour the map and usually kill the offending marine within a minute ot 2.

That gorge wouldn't have been particularly hard to kill, scanner sweep if used competently will rapidly show his location, communication will rapidly have every marine on the map at the entrances (you can't hide you can't run ) Finally an armoury can be placed and several granade launchers fetched even without researching JP marine acrobatics will allow you to get into fireing position and then its game over. Hell you could even spam ammo and ignore the armoury, the marines can find a hiding alien much faster than the aliens can find a hiding marine, scanner sweep!

If the com is too dumb to scan then the marines deserve a long painfull search.
