Okay, in all fairness, that texture comes with max and is royalty free, so technically it isn't stealing.
It is, however, a HIGHLY used texture. Since almost every 3d artist has it, almost every 3d artist uses it. Have you seen the menu screen for Unreal Tournament? Even a high profile game like that cheesed out and used that texture.
There is nothing wrong with using textures like that in your work, to help give it some base texure, but please try to modify it beyond recognition at least.
i come nad try to be helpfull and i get screamed at for sumthin i had no idea about! i didnt know it was from 3dmax, and if i did i would never had edited it or posted such a picture. geeze man.

DarkNemisis, I'm not saying you aren't capable of making your own textures. But the fact is, that texture apparently is something created by someone else, and the one that is up there now is modified now. I saw it before, and it was exactly what Hanz has put up there, only smaller. My comment is directed at the fact that you made absolutely no effort to state that it was not something you created.
It really isn't something that I'm overly concerned about or anything, but we don't need that kind of stuff around here. If you're going to take something you didn't create yourself and post it up as your own work... That is plagiarism.
_Edit_ Posted this before Squeal and DN's posts... wasn't aware that it was royalty-free. Still misleading though. You should have stated that you did not create it yourself.
/me is still looking forward to seeing your work, regardless.
the fact is i didnt have knowledge it was a copyrited pic! it doenst say 3dmax on it. i dont model, and i dont render with that prog. and yes i changed it because i didnt want to get in truble with any company or sumthin for usin a pic i had no idea about!!!!
Any time a person takes someone else's work and claims it as their own, that is plagiarism. Royalty free, or not. It is dishonest, and it is illegal.
I don't care if you knew where the image came from or not. My issue, and I think everyone's for that matter, is that you posted it practically unedited with the insinuation that it was your work.
I would like to see this discussion resolved, and for that I almost didn't post on this at all. However, you continue to repeat that you didn't know where it came from. Fine. You did know that it was largely not your original work, and you did not make any statement of that in your original post. Furthermore, you have been defensive and justifing of your acts, and in no way have you acted to correct what is percieved as an attempt at deceiving us. Weather or not that was your intent, without something like an apology I have little reason to trust you in the future.
I had been considering taking you up on your offer to provide textures. However, as it stands now, I will not - can not - use any texture you claim to have created.
I hope you will take a moment to calm down and choose to act responcibly on this.

That's exactly what it's about, DN. Not the fact that you used the texture. It's common to do that kind of stuff... modify royaltyfree stuff and use it... But claiming it as your own, and trying to "get a job off it" is just wrong.
No hard feelings though. Let's just move on and see your work!
DarkNemisis: "now how would i change it? i cant even edit it dude."
The image is linked to your site. You can change the file there all you want, and it'll change over here - "magically". And I've seen 3 versions of it since you posted it.
I'm going to be blunt. Stop trying to decieve us. The act is no different than a lie, and no less tollerable.
