When Was Natural Selection Released?

I started playing NS in early December, 1.03 had just been released. Was NS first released to the public at 1.0? And on what date? 4 years from now when this game is at 3.0+ will I have been considered an OG NSer? I'm quite curious about when it came out, it is doing very well. And an amazing game.

The question is, when was the first balance whine posted? I'm guessing Oct 31, 4:00 PM <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Nah, i bet some one posted a balance whine before the game was even out, like "0mg Skulx R to g00d cuz they R sc@ry Lo0king..." <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

Yes, balance complaints were made pretty much as soon as the game came out. The basic differences were a higher damage of marine weapons, and turrets still operated even after the factory was down (and of course none of the 1.04 changes). Due the unique originality of the aliens, and because of massive amounts of lag due to a slight bug in the netcode, the aliens were losing most matches, leading to countless flames of unbalance--TOWARD the marines. Because of this, the game was altered dramatically from how it was playtested, and now we are where we are now.

I'd like to know what it would be like playing on a 1.0 server, minus the lag, with a bunch of people who know what they're doing. I bet it would be pretty fun.

Well, you have to admit that one of the things was worth complaining about, the whole marines gettting 1000+ res all the time <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

That was funny in the game.

Ah, I remember the first game I played, it was nancy, and I went alien, due to the teams being like 11v6.

That was funny, but then the marines came to us with HA HMG GL etc <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo--> We were deaded <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

Well 1.0 had that nasty marine res bug were they had way too much res, marines would still dominate.

I meant I'd like to play NS 1.0, minus ALL the bugs. I didn't mean it would be fun to play on a buggy version.

I still think the Gl should be brought back to 1.0 standards

If you fired the GL in 1.0 and it hit an alien it would instanly explode, no wait time <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> that was fun times

<b>Note:</b> It still works this way (and if it doesn't, it's a bug).

I've been wanting it to do that since I started playing (I started at 1.03). Why did they take it out? Grenades are practically useless against moving targets these days...

    1.0 diffrences -

    GL had a 6 clip

    GL did more damage

Can anyone name anything else that wasn't a bug? I am not quite sure if there were any more subtle changes besides those done to weapon damage and carapce.

    Oh ya thats right.

Fades were turtles compared to now lol.

With the 1.02 patch they became the bad **** and made al lteh hardcore marines go OMG no! lol

Thus began the reign of the second hive!

Yup. Some l337 h4x0rs had managed to build a client version out of the server files that had been released a day before and thus had lots of time to find stuff worth complaining about.

GL was spamarific in 1.0. They should make an "Upgrade Grenade Launcher" in arms lab, costing 70(so you can buy two GLs or upgrade them for future use) and taking as long as motion tracking to research(at least) that makes it the same as 1.0...

I shoot a Fade in the face with a grenade launcher, and it never explodes... I'll seriously spam a hallway and they land at his feet, go through his chest, everything, and won't explode.

I've also noticed some mines are duds or something as going through the laser as an alien doesn't cause them to detonate.

    You're forgetting a huge change from 1.0
There was no team balance enforcement so it usually ended up being 14 marines vs 5 aliens.
