It should be enough to give you some experience with the common everyday stuff like creating rooms, carving brushes, texturing the faces, setting a few common entities, and so on. Just ignore the fact that the tutorial seems focused on Quake mapping - they both use Hammer in much the same way.
I'd suggest going through the tutorial, then try duplicating a few rooms from existing NS maps. That should give you a feel for how to get that 'NS atmosphere' while building your own map. Trust me, that alone helps more than words in any tutorial ever could.
I wonder if they can, like, make the FAQ's font as big as the first screen of the forums.
But I doubt people would notice. They'd just stupidly, mindlessly scroll down and bomb the forum with the same questions over and over and over and over like they do now.

Is it a crime to want a more human response than can be offered by a FAQ?
Evolving Evil has a point, maybe a thread thats sticky or something? To help out new mappers? Or maybe even the "new mapper" forum, like ns has the new player forum.
