don't need the dark shadow, and i find keeping the look of the texture and only taking out the areas that seem to be reccessed in the inf texture looks best... I'd show an example if i wasn't bout to go to sleep... I'll try to remeber to post again 2morrow.

aegis pretty much summed it up. Those textures are small enough that they'd need to repeat, but there would be a very obvious seam where they tile.

Yep I agree. These are small textures so if you tile them they will need to go together seamlessly and also be simple enough that will good on a large area. Let me elaborate, what you have right now looks ok on its own, but if you tile a large floor with them, the pattern will repeat itself (the infestation on top) and the floor will look unrealistic because the same infestation will go over and over again on the floor. To solve this keep the tile as simple as possible, so it will look good on a large area. Also try to avoid high contrast so patterns don't emerge.

To make the texture tile seamlessly use Photoshop. Put a layer of alien stuff over the original texture. Make sure that all sides of the alien infestation tile seamlessly. If they don't you can fix it yourself by using the clone tool. Just use a small(ish) brush and clone the sides so they flow into each other. There are more detailed tutorials on this on many texture sites Once it's seamless I would personally just use the eraze tool to dig holes in the infestation to reveal the floor below. Again.. I would avoid contrasting areas and try to keep it simple. Hope this helps

Other than the tiling issue that's been mentioned, the only thing that I would say needs improvement is the shadow. When I say improvement, I mean take it out. It looks odd having a shadowed edge around the infestation. It makes it look too "lumpy" for lack of a better word. The infestation should appear to get thinner at the edges, otherwise it looks too much like "goo" and not crawling infestation. Dunno if I'm explaining myself right, but you probably get the idea.

How did you make the infestation texture? did you make it or did you clone it from the existing textures. I've beent trying to figure out how they got this effect for awhile now, rather unsuccesfuly I might add.
