SA is ... OK in my opinion. Which is maybe the worst thing you can say about a site aimed on creating extreme reactions. Really, most of their stuff is simply written so averagely, that no matter how hateful they try to be, it just doesn't transport to me.
The article at hand is one of their better. I guess we can feel honored.
haha good stuff. But it's nowhere near as funny as their counter strike guide. It's been posted on the forums before but in the light of this I'll post it again.

In general, most of the links you find pasted around the gaming community will be for reviews of games, or articles such as cranky steve which at least imo, are the weakest sections of teh site. Try the rest of the content, the aim is not just to be 'hateful', thats simply a gimmick used by some of the writers. He doesn't always attempt it, but lowtax can be humourous without offending anyone.
Hey, I should mention that I love some of SAs stuff (I'm thinking of the mental UN commision here), but unfortunately, it's mostly burried under so much medicore stuff that I just don't bother digging.
I thought the piece on SA.com was entertaining, but not the best they've done. Also, they are right to some degree. Skulks look and act exactly like Zerglings (but not like the "new" ones in the warcraft 3 demo), Onos and Ultralisks äre basically the exact same thing and Fades I think are more like the Predator than Mutalisks. Maybe a mix, whatever.
That doesn't matter. Everyone gets their inspiration from somewhere, from H.R. Giger to the Alien-movies, to the Predator, to StarCraft to NS. I'm sure someone, somewhere, will someday make something that'll be considered a blatant rip of NS. Will you still care then?

also, the reason for his "starcraft" comments was because the dev's who made NS literally took 2 sounds directly from starcraft. While you're schlupping around SomethingAwful, take a look at the "Cliff Yablonski Hates You" section. There's a LOT of pics there, with a lot of commentary, and all of it mean. Yes, the CS guide is mildy ammusing if only because it touches so closely on what some players seem to believe. It appears the author can use irony and/or sarcasm ot good effect when pushed, the ns review is just random garbage of no relevence or humour (to me at least). Non of the flames I browsed through were entertaining, in fact many seemed to be spoof flames and it appears SA didn't get the return joke, or perhaps that was their return-return joke

That review is funny as hell... and the screenshots are great. Although I must say, crediting such a work to the wrong author (Valve) and not even providing a link to the game's site is rather dishonest of them. I mean, satire is satire, and this is certainly good satire for anyone who's played the game, but the least they could do, if they're going to use those images and the logo on their page, is provide a link to the game's site, even if they do say it was written by Valve.
>> They didn't take it from starcraft. They took the sounds from a sound pack that they bought that happens to be the same sound pack used in starcraft.
When I developed a game last year without a sound artist, I used a CD suite of sound effects that I had the rights to use. Many products will have similar sounds if they choose to use studio bulk sounds instead of custom making their own. Most dev teams at NS's level do not rip directly from other games. The lawyers would jump on them as soon as their 1.0 would be released.
