Models For Maps

<div class="IPBDescription">are there any?</div> Well i am looking for models usable in HL maps, specifically NS maps of course. Is there a site that features mostly models of this type and not playermodels? I specifically look for some kind of droid and a tree. can anyone help me out?

    I don't know if there are actually any structure replacements yet. So far I have only seen black reskins of the default alien structures to match the AvP2 stuff that is on the forums and the Aliens Queen hive replacement that is still in the works.

    i guess you misunderstood me, i dont mean reskinned versions of already existing models but totally new models for maps (dont have any function are just eye candy) like cups, TVs, couches whathaveyou. i found some but sadly no tree wich i need badly.

    just so you know it's probably hard to find tree models for the HL engine, player models and such in HL don't allow transparent textures, so making trees is kinda troublesome outside of actual map objects which are usually very low poly and ugly. I'm personally planning on making a kind of robot droid thing, but it's for a specific idea of mine and not for general map use per say

    ah didnt know there is no transparency on models in hl. hmpf so no treemodel. oh well too bad but nothing anyone can do about that. So i will have to figure out something else.

    I've made some chairs, a datapad, a plant(I never released it) and a coffee mug with the TSA logo. I could prolly whip up some world models if you want. Just gimme an idea of what you want.

    The map I started on but never finished a while ago used a reskinned version of the loader model from HL (the yellow quadraped thingy you see in the intro sequence and in one of the add-ons), which fit the NS theme rather well. Perhaps something like that would do you?

    what i need... hum.. lets see. basicly things one could find at an airport but NS style. the one thing i would love tough is a very simple and basic robot, only torso arms hand head and something on wich it is ancored in the ground as a kind of "RoboClerk". Also some kind of "baggage carrier" would be nice. alas don?t sweat it i was mainly poking around and dont <i>need</i> this stuff yet, have enoug to map still <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->. if i stumble upon something i desperatly need and can?t find ill keep you in mind *EG* alas it may be nice if youd release what you have in the general mapping forum for all to use? that is if you don?t want to use your stuff exclusevly for yourself wich would be highly understandable <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    It will be soon. CS1.6 now includes this technology.

    It would be nice for a few modellers to put together a site/collection of static world models for mappers to use.

    To the idea of a tree-model:

    As seen in the DoD-map para_kraftstoff, you could use the basic model of a tree without leaves and complete it with mapped brushes consisting of {-leaves-texes. The result can be very nice if it is done right. So I´d say you just need the model of a leafless tree and add the leaves per World Craft/Hammer, so you still save enough w_polies. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    trans on hl models isnt to hard to do... grab the queen model off the queen post and look at her right leg. it has a spot that is solid but has no texture. an error but it still is a transparent area of the leg. so you could actually do a trans area on a model by failing to skin that area.

    thats nearly or complete impossible.. you cant add animations to vehicles...would look stupid to run around in a powerloader with static legs and arms

    modllers, listen to fam! <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> its really a pain to find models that fit as static eyecandy. its not that complex stuff either, things like neat benches weird machinery things i mentioned above. Would be beautiful to get more of these.

    Oh and there IS model transpaency in NS/HL already. just have the parts that should be transparent black, set the rendermode of the entity used for the model to additive and you are all set, the black will be rendered invisible. Of course this does NOT work too well with most things, but for holograms its great. (note that this only applies to static world models and not player models of course)

    I sorta understand what he means, a perfectly still idle animation, somthing like "powered down" mode or somthing?


    BTW, i got a few map goodies i made, a helmet and motion tracker from aliens, the bipedial forklift, and my newest creation: The BMRC sign and plaque for my nearly totally designed map, NS_BMRC1
