yeah i read the fps tweaking guide
ok well first of all, im on 2.2 ghz, 512 ram, and a geforce 4 4600.

if 4+ marines combined with/or aliens and structers is in my vision, i get somewhere near 35 fps.thats only when the marines are firing though. if its just my base with 3-4 marines then i get 50. it seems like the only time i can get 100 is while staring at a corner in the ceiling.

Is there a problem on my end or is it just because of the "CPU intensity" whateverness that NS has?

because i remeamber in lower quality mods like team fortress or cstrike, my FPS is never lower than what i set it to VIA console (i turned vsync off).

Oh boo freaking hoo. Only 35 FPS? Can only reach 100 when alone? Stop whining. Most of us reach 40 when we're alone and we'll be lucky to get 15 or 20 in a firefight.

I have a P3 1Ghz 512mb RAM, and a GeForce 4200 128MB; when I spawn in a marine base with phasegates and marines, firefights and buildings moving around I usually get 30-45 fps. When I'm running down a hallway alone it goes up to 99. More things to render, particle effects and moving people all affect your frame rate. That's normal and really no way to fix it. Make sure you have the latest Detonator drivers from nvidia, that may help you tweak it a bit.

    WHAT THE HELL!?!?
    First off:
    Shut your mouth.

    Second:
That guy paid thousands of dollars for his computer so he has the right to question his performance in NS. The man has a GREAT system and he shouldnt get anything lower then 75 at all times.

    Third:
If you whine about getting 15 fps in a firefight, then you must have a "low to mid end" system. Wich means, you have an OLDER and LESS POWERFULL system then him, soooo YOU WILL GET LOWER FPS COUNTS.

Sorry if I have to YELL but I'm TIRED of disrespectful people who have no idea what they are talking about.

I have an AthlonXP 2000+ with 512MB 2700 (333Mhz) ram and an Asus GeForce4 ti4200 and I also get lower FPS then I should be getting. There is definitively a problem on the NS end, since my computer is UP TO DATE hardware and software wise (I have ALL the most recent drivers and patches). ****! I get better FPS playing Battlefield 1942 on 64 player servers with the highest settings!!!

I paid ALOT of money to get this system and I'm disapointed of getting sub-par FPS counts.

The real question Fooshie is this:
Do you get a good FPS count in other games? Cause if you get like 30 FPS in Unreal Tournament 2003 then the problem could be on your end.
Do you run NS in OpenGL? Cause on most systems, D3D will run slower. Also, maybe you need to upgrade your sound cards/motherboards/video cards drivers...

If your system is running at 100% of it's potential (like mine) and you still get 35 fps in NS, then worry not, there's nothing you can do about it
The half-life engine is old, and it has ALOT of problems and pitfalls.

P.S. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE NS!

    turn off v-synch

with v-synch on, my half life runs a constant 60 fps no matter what. which is cool, although i havent tested to see if it slows down during heavy use.

with v-synch off, my half life runs at 100 fps and slows to 60 during extreme use.

btw i'm using athlon xp 1800 with 768 mb sdram and a ti4600

also check your refresh rates. get refresh lock because half life returns your monitors refresh rate to 60 when launching or something to that effect.
