Clan Play Vs. Pub Play

I've got to say that I thought clan play would be a lot more fun than pub play. However, after having a few scrims with my clan under my belt, I've found that pub play is far more rewarding.

I love long drawn out games (I played one on Friday that lasted 2.5-3 hours), but clan play does not provide for long games.

So, anyone else have comments on this topic?

That is why you play some of both. Clanplay and scrims are fun, and just playing pubs would get boring.

I think that a third category should be added, Organized play. I played in Leagues for a Q3 mod for a few years and it totally ruined the mod for me. Two teams with the sole purpose of winning the match can really drag out the game to the stages you were describing. I do not think I will engage in Tournement play for NS, I enjoy it too much. Organized play, or play on a server that you frequent, that is well admined, has to be the best way to play. Not only do you get people that know what they are doing, you also get an infusion of new ideas by playing in a fairly competetive game with people from different clans and people taht do not play in clans. Having an admin around also helps to weed out the llamas.

Torak, Chimp is saying Pub games last for 2+ hours and this is what he enjoys. Most clan games are over within 10 minetes.

Clan games and Tournament games are two different things. My clan is not in a league, and do not have any plans on playing in one. We prefer Organised play on pubs. I have taken part in several 2.5 hour + games with other pub players. We have 2 public servers which we patrol religiously. Pub play has a greater likelyhood of sucking. My point was that all clans are not as cut-throat as others and some actually enjoy long games. Clan play as he described it tends to be quite cuthroat, win at all costs. He is right. That is boring. But it is not the fact that clans were involved, it's the game setting. Scrimmages and Matches can very quickly suck all the fun out of any game.

What's all this talk about clan games being shorter? From my experience they're usually longer, as both teams are strategic and plan things out more, usually resulting in long stalemates between marines and aliens. I think it's all down to preferance. I think the concept of professional clans with leagues and tournaments extends the longetivity of the mod, making for a fresher experience.

Clan rounds usually last between 15 and 40 minutes, unless its a blow out. I think they're a lot more fun then pubs personally, more is at stake and everyone is always playing for real with the best strategies and the best teamwork they have. While in the past they were basically about rushing the hive that has changed in 1.04 and they've gotten much better. I don't know how you could prefer silly lockdown games with mass turrets that lag up servers to them, but that's just my opinion.
