the balance is perfect
Hey all, I've played since this game came out last october (october right?). Anyways, after last nights contests, I just want to pop in here and tell the devs that their work is sheer greatness, and balance is perfect.
Those of you that frequent Jigglypuff's server know me as Beavis, I play there quite frequently. I play as both Humans and The Scourge, and know my way inside and out of almost every aspect of this game.
The regulars and I geared up and got ready to kick alien butt last night on eclipse, but nobody jumped in the comm chair. I volunteered, letting the gang know that I wasn't the world's greatest, and that the human race might not survive with me at the reigns. They didn't care and we started the match.
IP, IP, armory, observatory, and a phase, then our starting resources were spent. One man sat in base to defend while I shuttled the remaining 5 soldiers to maintenance. Phase first then captured the node, and while resources gathered, those 5 held off maintenance. We then moved to south loop and held that off as the aliens rushed from computer core to keep us busy. All this time the gorge was building in eclipse.
While a heated battle raged at south loop, my base defender scurried off and capped horseshoe and station access, while building arms and proto in base. I began to tech up and then came the fades. The fades bombed us at south loop but we held them off sucessfully in a very bloody battle.
My marines kept screaming for HA/HMG but I kept urging them to keep rushing, as our resources were climbing. While holding off south loop against the fades, I saved around 200 res. At this time I gave EVERY soldier HA/HMG/Welder, and following this move, we sucessfully pushed forward from south loop into computer core, and then from there onto eclipse for the win.
Ah, nostalgia. Anyways, after this two hour victory, (those kinds of victories are the ones you love to tell stories about huh?) we geared up in nancy and the battle played out almost exactly the same as eclipse.
My point of the whole thing is that this game is balanced perfectly now. I couldn't have asked for better from the devs and love this game to death. If your marines know what they are doing, and you have a half-decent comm, marines CAN win.
Don't change a thing about this game anymore! Except bug fixes. Like I always seem to blink into the ceiling.
Anyways good job Flayra.

Most of the time the Alien team was spent waiting to respawn... =(
I was on Marines one time... me and this other guy went to the Viaduct hive and held off many skulks trying to rush us... the hallways a big and long, which makes for easy shooting. On top of that, they spawned so much slower, that if the Comm for that game had any skill at all, we could've taken the hive easily... but of course, he didn't do that and eventually I ran out of bullets and they got me.
Pick Your Battles...
come from behind... flank them, do somthing other then what you did if it doest work...
edit: i READ your post, my mastake, the aliens were dumb...
I've always played with 50/100 base defender, and when I run out of ammo and have to reload, I get HALF a clip in my gun, have to manually reload again, before I'm good to go. Something needs to be done about auto-reload, if we're going to be @##%$ about not letting it go straight to the gun.
I died about 3 times due to the new way ammo is distributed, in under 15 minutes (bad for a base defender.)
meh, guess I'll have to spend time with the n00bs who now have the right idea, get 250 rounds before moving.
The marines never win. The traditional cap 2 hives asap does NOT work anymore. I know cause i've tried it as comm, and have destroyed it as aliens. here is what we did...
They took over the vent hive. Phase gate, TF, about 7 (well placed) turrets and a siege. We organize an attack. 5 skulks outside vents, and 1 gorge. The gorge builds D chambers right near the elevator. Everyone gets the new and improved regen. The 5 of us rush in at the same time and focus on the phase gate. The gate drops in .00000000002 seconds, and the regen keeps us alive. We take a quick sprint back to the top of the ele, regen for 1 or 2 ticks, then run in and take out the TF. That was the end of that. We lost one skulk, and it was me =(
Jetpackers also have a little bit of a problem now. During all of that commotion at vent, the comm decided to give the marines JP's and HMG's and instructed them to take out our main have. 3 marines fully loaded in our hive....
A. The hive has max HP cause of patch (it probably would be anyway, but its just less for the gorge to do in the beginning. And this is also another reason to scratch D chambers first, cause they dont need to regen the hive).
B. While we fight near the hive, we gain 20hp a tick so we never die, cause of patch (this will be nerfed).
C. Spines do more damage, cause of patch
With these additions, the jetpackers fell very quickly to 2 lerks. There goes that strat right out the window. So, they cant secure 2 hives because their phase gates die instantaneously(sp?), they cant jetpack and drop a hive cause of the new lerks spines...they cant rush the hive initially, because the hive starts out with full HP, and gives the aliens 20hp a tick....what can they do now? The biggest thing that the marines rely on now, are stupid aliens.
And this new cloaking thing? oh god, its not even fair. We now get cloaking first and defense last for a few reasons.
1) Whats better for survival, not being seen? or regenning?
2) Level 3 cloak is 30 resources not 42. (save 12 resources for the team)
And my biggest thing. Have you tried being a skulk with cloak and silence? Not only can you cloak in .000034 seconds, but you cant be heard either! I remember once i hid the middle of reatcor room, 3 marines ran by me. I ran after them....since i have silence they cant hear me decloak, and they cant hear me approach. I drop all 3 of them before they even fire at me.
Another thing we do with the new patch is get cloaking first (i know i'm being redundant), and camp out in really good spots. I sit in the FRONT of their base and wait for them to move by me, and I kill em instantly. The new cloaking is great for gorges too, cause they can camp safely, and not have to worry about a marine passing by. The new cloaking is also great for evolving...now I can evolve in peace and not worry about some tard with a welder running at me....and that brings me to welders.
Welders used to drop a hive faster than an HMG...they would drop sensory and D chambers like a hot knife through butter. But now....they are only good for one thing...welding buildings and marines =( Scratch another diverse tactic for marines.
And fades now...costing 10 resources more. aw come on SoBe.Dragon, be quiet. 10 resources is nothing, it just forces the gorge to cap more RT's. True, but what happens when I finally achieve my 54 resources, I fade, then blink into a wall? Or better yet, get killed by a marine in 5 minutes. You know how long it is gonna take me to go fade again?? I mean, with everyone else waiting for 54, its gonna take MUCH longer!
Another thing i figured out. If you get stuck, ask the admin to slap you once, it gets you out of wherever you are.
Anyway, I think NS is fine now!
And marines win MORE than previously where I play.
Though "where I play" almost everyone is a veteran, and know to teamwork and all that. Its great commanding there, which I have done once after 1.04 and maybe twice before that(I am marine rarely, and commander even more rarely, [autoassign bind>you team entrance campers]), since they follow orders so nicely. Its GREAT when you are commander when the game is won by you with your overwhelming force(rather than rushing of whatever kind that marines are capable of, man is that boring. And really annoying for aliens, moreso than skulk rush.).
EDIT: BTW SoBe, you have a bunnyhop script and is therefore not entitled to whining (semi-j/k)
Try going LERK and be UmbraMan for your fellow fades. Kinda boring, but it feels good when you won the game and know you did much for the team rather than just helping a tiny bit by destryong some random buildings/marines.
I'm also seeing a lot more tense games on pubs. It used to be that the winner is obvious from the beginning in many games. No longer true. Losing a hive, getting one back,... many more reversals. On some games, the marines got killed when we were still at one hive, but there were fights for every hive.
The "we have two hives, we win" (for both sides) is no longer true either. The two hive point is less dangerous for the marines now, due to the higher cost of fades and weaker umbra, and it's easier to take back a hive as aliens, due to phasegate and siege changes. The increased damage for the lerk also helps a bit, in a hive with lots of pipes in the ceiling (such as caged - generator) a single lerk can take out an undefended turret farm and phasegate easily. (I tend to go for the phase first, once that's out there won't be many reinforcements).
