Almost. We're taking a break this weekend. But yes, with every passing MOMENT the mod rolls closer to being finished. I don't think Flayra sleeps. He just codes. And codes. And codes...
well, yeah, no playtesting this weekend, im hoping for some uber-build next weekend, with like all the alien models and shiz, but yeah its getting closer man, don't think its too far off!
and codes,and codes,and codes,and codes,and codes,and codes,and codes,and codes,and codes,and codes,and codes,and codes,and codes,and codes,and codes,and codes,and codes,and codes,and codes, i wish! itd be done by now if he did
I'm already stocking up on caffeine as we speak. Forget making the beans into coffee, that takes too long and I'll have to take my hands off the keyboard. I'll eat the beans with some incredibly complex device that will shove coffee beans in my mouth at the slightest sign of sleepiness...
why isnt there always playtesting going around? i mean, the more u play the more things u notice right... so why isnt there playtesting 24/7 (a bit too much... but you get what i mean)
Umm.. the best thing I can offer you is so that we don't get burnt out on NS early and we can attack it every weekend, with a full week to mentally prepare ourselves to attack it head on.
Well I think the lack of playtesting for one weekend is rather good on the playtesters, doing it every single weekend might become a hassle for some of the them, so as rob says "its kind of refreshing."
In that case, with two weeks of Flayra coding, the build should (hopefully) have progressed <b>a lot</b> since the last one.
There are some bigger changes that need to happen this week and next week, so that the build wouldn't be ready for playtesting. Perhaps it's not immediately obvious, but testing takes a lot of time and effort on our end, and is quite stressful.
You probably won't see huge amounts of changes after this two week period, but lots of good stuff will have happened under the hood.
well of course everymoment were closer, as long as time flows we will be closer, for now i am 3 seconds closer to downloading the mod, 12 seconds! 18! my god! <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->
oh... sorry but the thing is 18 seconds isnt that much if the release is in 3 months, so just wait till its done
unless.... we get him a clockstoppers watch, then in what seems a day he could have coded a year!
i read in a post that so far the net code is pretty shabby. I assume this is one of the things Flay means when he says 'under the hood'.... anyway, my question: What is the maximum amount of players the HL engine can support? i always thought that it was 32, but i may be wrong. Now, although there would have to be some specific maps for this, i think that a 16 v 16 or more match of NS would be SOoooooooooo fun!
We're hoping to eventually be able to try out 32 player games, but for now we need to keep the player count a lot lower. I don't know if its that the netcode is bad so much as that the game needs to be run in debug mode for now. That means increased processor use which means that latency increses, which means less people can be fully supported.
But yes, so far, large games <i>are</i> really, really fun.
Greedo's right. The netcode as it is now is fine. The main problem is that the CPU of the server is running at 100% nearly all of the time. Some of the biggest problems we ran into in the game were information being 'backlogged' on the server. All because it's running in Debug mode, so Flayra can see what's going on, and what's going wrong.
The final version will be fine. It will also support 32 players. Of that, I'm 99% sure.
Great, all we ahve to do now is fear that 1% <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo-->
Don't you think that the community ppl will act like islam terrorists in that case? (the flayra and his pc vs. lightning case) I think they (we *g*) would take flayra hostile and force him to code all day, won't we? To prevent him from dying we'll gonna force him to eat a special mixture of salt, caffeine and sugar (ok thats my special mixture on LANs, Coffee + sugar + Tortillas). If I overthink that, I think Flayra is doing that to himself already. <!--emo&???--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'><!--endemo-->
A question besides that: How all you playtesters became playtesters? Also I don't think that the answer would be yes, do you take more playtesters? *me looking in a greedy mood on the screen* Oh, and please spare me with stories like you ppl had to drain your bodys and clone yourself with better genetics just to be comparable to the new neural Natural Selection interface. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->
Give 'em a break people. Everyone needs a life. Besides, playtesting isn't just playing. There's a lot of feedback that needs to happen and that takes awhile. If we've waited this long we can wait longer.
what would happen if flayra got a virus? or something else why he has to format his drive... and all the playtesters get it too because it spread in a new build...

if flayra lost all his backups i would kill myself. no need to live without NS. <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->

Greets.
As for becoming a playtester, just post intelligently. Not looking for more testers at the moment, but as things move on, we might.
Duh.
