It's not just yours. They can get really agressive at that time of their lives. It's a sexual stage or something.
The agression dies down significantly at around the age of 12. Might take longer for some. And usually right before it starts to become calmer (usally 10 or 11 years old) it can get <i>really</i> nasty.
Mine is 12 years old right now and is still in this stage. As long as you're careful with him it should be managable.
(For anyone taking it as a joke... it isn't. They're called "Double Yellow Headed" because they stand all the feathers on their heads on end when they get excited.. thus their head appears to be "double" in size.)

I had a two headed hamster wich was dark blue
but it didnt live for long...
