Ns Server Oversaturation?

TweedleTweedle Join Date: 2002-11-07 Member: 7581Members

To the players, not server admins ..
I hosted a NS server a while back (1.0-1.02) and have seen that there have been some incredible improvements of the CPU usage on linux boxes.

So the question is, does the game need another server? CS is completely oversaturated and there are hundreds of servers with 5 people on them, half the servers are off cable modems, etc. Is the same thing happening with NS? I haven't played it in the last two patches so it has been atleast a month and I'm sure the situation has changed a lot since then. Are people still looking for good servers or has it turned into a "everyone plays on x y and z and does something else when they're full" situation?

Thanks,

Funny, all the UK servers are full, at all the peak times.

Or maybe I've just got so many filters on I only see the good ones.

So, if that's true, it's not a phenomena that's particularily hit over here yet.

Well, I tend to play on Grapesoda.net if I can. So I guess you would be right in my case. Though it's really pretty easy to find a server with enough players with things like all-seeing eye. (lots of good filters)

Here are my stats (all seeing eye): filters:
ping < 100, not full, not empty, no password

results: 26 servers, 254/381 players, 444 servers filtered out

11 are german, 6 are in the UK, 4 french, the rest is in other countries

That's the situation I have right now. So there are some places where you can play without any problems.

    Your from the UK Shockwave????

    Wow!

The best servers in the UK are Blueyonders IMO. Friendly admin team, good PASSWORDED servers and an amazing community.

(Just don't be fooled by the free slots, two are always reserved for Admins) and if it's anything else they use [WHO]Them's metamod plugin. (If I remember rightly!)

We need as many servers as possible so the chances of newbs/muppets joining the one I play on is reduced.

    ...seriously.

    Blue Yonder rocks.

I'm in east coast USA and use blueyonder's ftp for getting all my server files, patches, etc. Reliable 550KB/s+ downloads. I could probably find some place faster, but blueyonder is so reliable I'd rather not have to bother looking around.

Add to that BlueYonder are my broadband supplier (512kbs) and I get a nice 30 ping on their servers. I suppose that helps......

Heh, my employer is my broadband supplier, quite conveiniently. (sp?)

Yeah, Ven, plenty of people are UK or Euro on here, I'm usually on the BY servers, just not the PC Zone ones since they put it on their coverdisc (lamer frenzy).

My issue with the BY admins was one started to cry because I built a sensory, at all. *Sigh*

If ya spot me, shout. I'll be on as [NBK]Shockwave usually.

Will do just look out for

    N-L | [JSSDF]Venmoch

(The JSSDF comes from my old clan of about 3 members that fell through. And N-L is my new clan! And you may (judging by your avatar guess where we got the old tag from!)

    ON-TOPIC!

We could always do with another server, there really can never be enough, perhaps run your server with custom maps or something! Make it different!

I personally dont think that a game or mod can have too many servers, but not enough, more servers the merrier!

almost all the good servers (low ping/admins) are almost always full

yeah well, we need more players too

Just closed my server up until there is *more* demand for servers, i didnt plan to have my server running empty most of the time and having only about 3-4hrs of play time. Well at least i can now play myself.
