<div class="IPBDescription">Has anyone else noticed this ?</div> Hi I play alot on public servers in Australia and I've noticed recently that most times I join a new game as a marine ppl are really reluctant to go commander now ?
A month ago it was a real battle or really good luck to get into the CC seat now I find I have to take command or there simply IS NO COMMANDER <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
Are ppl scared or couldnt be bothered being the commander?
Or is just down here that is is happening ?

I played 2 NS games on eclipse today in which i was the comm.I had approx 2 people ouit of 7 marines that actually obeyed orders.The rest either camped in main base begging for "coolz stuffz" or upgrades that i simply couldnt afford,ran at OCs with a knife repeatedly or just ran around the map playing rambo.And bragging about it.Oh yea there was this guy who sat in base whining about how comm sucks because we didnt have ha/hmg/welders for everyone(this was at 1 minute from round start).He kept asking for people to eject me so that he could give everyone ha/hmg.Then he kept asking for aliens to rush our base because "comm sucks".
The other vets on aliens were laughing.A lot.
The stress and frustration is almost too much when you command in some games.
However, if you get a team that listens and has decent aim it is really sweet to command.
And some guys really need to try to get a tactical overview of the game. It is important not only for the commander, but for the marine grunts as well.
Example: On Nancy we had a phasgate in mother interface covered by lots of turrets and siege. Then someone started yelling for a phase inside the subspace hive.
We were a bit low on res, but ok. Then I built the resource tower and a turretfactory about 3 or 4 times...
"Why 4 times???" you ask. Well, mainly because the marines wouldn't stay long enough for me to get sentries up <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
Ok, this was an extreme case, but knowing the map and enemy placements as well as you own really helps.
Commander will get the most praise if they win, or the worst flames if they lose.. whether it is their fault or not, it all depends on them. <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo-->
1) My computer is really not up to it. Mouse is lagging behind, etc.
2) By the time I want to capture a hive, 66% of my team is spread accross the map. If I want to give a marine an order, I have to chase him with my (laggy) mouse... In the hope he'll follow it.
3) It's quite stressfull, I don't mind the blames but you can't afk to take a leak, etc. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

<li>The Proud
<li>The Commandos
</ul>
However, I find typing to give orders gets reallly tedious sometimes.. So I prefer ppl with voice comm to command.. But even without voice comm, I have coordinated serveral winning games and 1 amazing come back before.. Most of the time it really depends on the quality and the coordination of the marines.
Ofcourse there is something futher to do with that res, spam scanner sweaps non stop in the last alien hive to show them how much they lost the game by. It also fun <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Either way, it doesn't matter, there is always going to be a player on the server that thinks you suck and don't know what you are doing. Yesterday I was in a pub game, and as commander I had gotten to a point where every marine on my team had a Jetpack and HMG, and the aliens still had only 1 hive. Well, I obveously put too much faith in those players, because they were all dead within minutes. I still don't understand how anyone with all 10 fingers on their hands can die to a skulk with a Jetpack and HMG. That's like a Sherman Tank vs a bunny rabbit.
You players who like being a commander, don't let other players comments get you down. If they are flaming you, they probably don't have much a good idea of how to play. I've noticed it is the worst commanders and the best commanders that get flamed, the bad ones because they drop 4 Command Chairs to start the game off, and the good ones because they don't use turrets and phase gates. The point is, someone is going to hate you no matter what, so just get in the chair and give the aliens hell!
I like commanding, and people are fine to me about it. You just ask them nicely and tell them the vision of what you want them to do.
"hey people we want generator hive, could you get there place the phase, then i want stability and auxillary gen for the res."
"the group at spanw cover the welder guy, if we can weld to vent, we got the game"
of course you do get a couple of rambos, who just wont listen. I let them do what they wont, they normally dont have the teams support.
Oh yes, this is terribly important! If you explain to your marines why you are doing something, instead of just telling them to do it no questions asked, you will have a much better chance of getting it done. Half of being a commander is keeping the moral of your soldiers high, and if the more they trust you, the better they will perform.
Winning on the other hand makes me feel really...cheesy...
So its not so much about getting the blame from everyone(I dont think that happened the 1 time I lost) else on the team.
I mean they get so much needless hate/attacks just because they won't do some Rambos request.
Although I'll be willing to start commanding when I get a microphone
but i sorta gave up too.. i LOVE field commanding tho <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->:D weeheee
