Laser Trips Crashing Servers

Why?
Can someone explain to me why laser trip mines crash servers, but normal mines dont?

It gets really annoying.. because they are so fun on some custom maps, but if you use like 30+ the server can crash..
And will it be fixed in 1.1?

... placing mines on the ground won't crash the server?

If what you say is true... (and I was in a game where we had enough laser trips set up that it was a friggin light festival without the smoke and it still didn't crash)
I am going out on a limb and guessing that rendering the laser forces another entity and requires collision testing along a vector, where on the floor requires collision testing with the mine itself. Much easier to test one area than a whole line extending to infinity or the nearest wall. Multiply that by 100 and see how bad a server can crash.

If there are too much mines at one place, a chain reaction can crash the server. Place them in different places.

Here's an example of how many mines are needed to crash the server - still looks cool, though.
