Hives Or Resources?

<div class="IPBDescription">which is better go get and in what order</div> When I first went as a commander I first instructed my troops to an empty hive and secured it. Then I immediately sent them to the other hive and secured that. Fortunately it worked.
My question is if this is the end-all-do-all order, or are there variations and is it map dependent?
I suppose you could get resources first, but there are resources at the hives, so what's the difference if you get hive+resource or just a resource node?

Try securing res nodes while harrassing the alien team (killing gorge, knifing their res) and tech to HMG/JP.

And by "securing res nodes" i don't mean with a TF :)

The best way to effectively screw the aliens over at the start of the match is to rush to the aliens only res tower. Once thats down, pump the hive till your dead. If you dont succeed in getting the hive, dont worry, you've irreversibly crippled the alien team beyond repair and you can take your sweet **** time doing what the hell you want.

However, it is no fun. I know, I've been on the recieving end of this tactic multiple times...

Well it is not always a good tactic to defend every res node you take. Check this topic which i putted in Frontiersmen Strategy forum.

That was kind of my point....

The best defense is a good offence, and if you're constantly giving their gorge and hive grief its going to be alot harder for them to deal with the 1 spare marine running round the map capping nodes. But a few mines never hurt anyone (well actually.... yea you get the idea)
