Hera station 16-b entrance hall!

<div class="IPBDescription">Get it whilst it's hot!</div>Finally, Hera has a main entrance room. This is the area the marines will be greeted with if they choose the light side. (The dark side being maintence route)

To your left is the messhall and connecting processing rooms. To your right is main data retrieval and adjacent data processing areas.

Straight ahead is reception desk and an all-purpose resource node. Please take a seat if you are waiting for clearance, or you are entitled to the use of the mess hall so long as you don't upset Bob.

Ahem...realy though, there will be holographic screens in the blank spaces on the walls by the seats showing off this station's layout, and subsequent information. Once I model them, there will be circular tables in front of the seats too.

Anyhow, comments? Too bright? Too plain? Just right? Come on!

So what does this replace? (Screenshot, preferably)

    Ummm, it replaces this <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

Certainly looks ALOT better, in my humble opinion though, I think the ceiling texture isnt quite fitting.

Oh my. You went and changed that room 'eh? I must say it looks a lot better. I prefer this one. And it looks just right. Don't clutter it up with more 'detail'.

You didn't really think I was going to leave it how it was, did you? I mean, *really*?

That is a great improvement.  I'm glad to see that old look go. <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->  I can't wait to see it with those models and holograms in.

I think that, given the general feel of this area of the level, that the lighting in these shots is great.  This just looks awesome.

that is one sexy looking entrance...
/me stares at it hard to help him get through a week without a light-emitting surface showing him such marvellous work  (birds, here i come!!  the winged kind unfortunately ~;)

Yeah I didn't think much of the ceiling texture in that area either. It made it feel as though it was higher than it actually was, and so the pillars looked as though they didn't touch the ceiling.

Curiously enough, you pointed out the ONLY half-life texture in the room <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->

    Try this one.

I don't know.  I like the first cieling texture better (I couldn't tell it was hl.wad) for some reason. <!--emo&???--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'><!--endemo-->  The second one still looks good, though.

It looks nice, specially with the new ceilign texture...but the whole reception desk area is kinda...well pointless to gameplay. I know it makes it look nice and all, but (I dont see any paths at least) no marine will ever look at it much. and the only aliens will be hidig behind the sign looking for marines. I might be crazy and yelled at for this, but oh well <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

The benches along the side of the ramp look much better. I didn't know what they were in the first shot, but a little tweeking seems to have cleared that up.

Very impressive, overall. Nothing I can see to critique. Nice work, Merkaba!

    very nice <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->
this room looks very big, lets see.. the seats are 32 units off the floor? which would make the room.. 256 units high? hmm most of my rooms seem to be very tall as well, not that that's a bad thing though

Very nice indeed, tho i have to agree with greedo, I liked the first cielingtexture better and I didn't even notice it was from the HL wad.

Not all things need to be usable or have a point to be in a map. Sometimes, it's just there to make it look sw33t.

Mole, but we all know how much trouble mappers have with detial limits, if merk can fit it in, and still have the rest of the level detailed, I will shut up and go poke your silly bunny <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo-->

There is a resource node behind the reception desk, a good reason for both teams to visit.

Do we still have a platfrom lift between here and the marine spawn area? (I didn't like that)

wow the change from the old to this new is just awesome. I like lots the lighting. I think 2 ceiling texture fits more than the HL one, but...
  • MerkabaMerkaba Digital Harmony Join Date: 2002-01-24 Member: 22Members, Retired Developer, NS1 Playtester
Nope, we have this sexy number for a lift now.
  • MerkabaMerkaba Digital Harmony Join Date: 2002-01-24 Member: 22Members, Retired Developer, NS1 Playtester
Which in turn joins into this corridor which pastes the entrance hall to the entrance lift.

These last two are good, but i'd like to see more architecture at ceiling level, looks a bit boxy up there.

Shouldn't there be signs directing visitors to the reception desk?

How did you do that big reception sign by the way?

    Penumbra is sexier than Hera!

    ...

Ummm, back to the drawing board for me!

i dont think the they look a bit boxxy, there is no need that all rooms and corridors look hexagonal or something like that. Some boxy rooms like this helps cause then you arrive to other awesome structural rooms and then yell "OHH my GOD!!!". If every single room/corridor is just awesome it then turns to be a bit like unreal for me, but well, its just an opinion.

I think the elevator looks really nice, and boths sides of the corridor in the 2º pic have a very good lighting contrast.

I really think an official mapper should publish his work to us, so we could learn a bit *looks at merkaba*

Without a doubt, my new favorite room. Well... besides the elephant. <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->

This room is great, merkaba. I'm amazed with the difference in mood this sector has now. It's just awesome. I was going to mention the ceiling, but that's been covered obviously.

Oh, and that very last shot you put up... the hall... pwnage.

Still don't like that ceiling. The textures don't "meet" eachother if you know what i mean. Just looks like some surrealistic 3d to 2d bug.

    The rest is yummy!

For some strange reason that lift looks dead sexy.... must be the texturing. <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->

I think the real reason that the elevator is so sexy looking is that its got an angled descent.  That's some more great looking shots.  Keep it up and Hera will be finished in no time.
