You will have more problems with the NSTR. The 1.0 client release is in every way superior to it, and in fact includes all of the code that was in the NSTR (since the NSTR is a stripped down version of the standard NS client).
Except the 1.0 release does <b>not</b> include some of the functionality of the NSTR, such as being able to edit particle systems. See the 'bug' that toggleeditps is used to actually activate the 'muting' menu in multiplayer as a great example of this problem.
The NSTR is still the only way really to work on particle systems, unfortunately.
