Heavy industrial is what I really dig, but for some reason, there's a lot of people that despise it. Or at least think it's overused. Up to you, really.
I'd say industrial, because... well... As a matter of fact, the theme is actually <i>lacking</i> lately.

That doesn't mean the map has to <i>take place</i> where the people live. Nor do levels have to have a consistent sense of "realism" throught. If they did, I'd be screwed.
I do think that there will be enough variation throughout the various levels that people are going to be getting their fair share of clean stuff.
That's not to say I don't like your idea... a mix would be very cool. You might want to consider that IFA.

Just my opinion, just my opinion....
