Couldn't Someone Do A Tutorial Level?

For the sake of our n00bs.
This game must be one of the most horrible to start playing without reading the manual first. I mean, you can stroll down a corridore, just enjoying the spectacular graphics, when suddenly an Onos de-cloaks in front of you.
I think a lot of new players don't feel they have to read the manual ("Hey, it worked for CS"), but almost anyone can (and will) do a short tutorial level.
I would gladly do the tutorial myself, but my mapping skills are non-existant (if not less), so Im posting here with hopes of some skilled and devoted mapper finds this and thinks it is a good idea. The entire community could benefit from this, since there propably would be a lot fewer clueless NSPlayers roaming the servers.
The tutorial itself should be pretty basic. A presentation of the marine structures and the alien evolutions and their armament. A short description of the resource-system (explaining that 4 gorges just isn't viable in a 5 man alien team), and some info about what the commander does.
It should also emphasize that this is a joint venture; teamwork and communication is essential for the gameplay.
It shouldnt explain any strategic elements, and not how to be commander, since this is something you gain skill in through in-game experience.
With hopes of not repeating anyone

these are the NS basics:
- the spawn room, 32 player spawns, obs & alien & human & random entity to go play.
- human command room, a CC, command view entity, 16 human spawns and a resource.
- 1-3 hives, each with a resource & 16 alien spawns. (actually you only need one, but newbs.)
- corridors with see-thru texture top.
ok, so what else would you want in a tutorial open source map with a compiled BSP?
an example of a weldable?
and example of func nobuild?
anything else you can think of?
not too much, because you want to KIS it, (Keep It Simple) for newb mappers not to get lost.
:phew:

They're talking about a tut map for the players, not a tut map for beginning mappers.
damn, if they are anywhere as good as hera, i wont mind relearning how to build infantry portals
just remember to include a "FOLLOW THE FREAKING ORDERS!" Do a clockwork orange thing if you have to
/me imagines player feeling sick at the thought of not following orders or hearing classical music
also, Tommy, while your post was off-topic, creating a "my first time" map (whoo whoo), would be cool if it isn't already out there. thus far, I've made good use of the tutorials on place like chrome angel's site, but a prerendered would be helpful as well, and I don't know if anyone has ever posted one up.
mmm. rs - das modell.
Glad it sounds like the tutorial is still in progress.
Also, having a tutorial that STRESSES team work would clear alot up. There's a time and place for Rambos, there really are, it's just not 12 seconds into the game in all diffrent directions, neh? Oh, or how about this classic:If your in front, KNEEL so we can shoot OVER you. Two guys that won't kneel effectivly block a teams worth of firepower.
Also, something like the weapon training in cs would be very appriciated just becuase of the nature of the game. How can a commander expect anyone that dosn't play 6 hours a day to know how to use any weapon effectivly when the players likly hood of GETTING IT rests /on/ their skill with it!? Case in point is the Shotgun, a weapon generally loved on this forum, yet dispised on public servers becuase of it's near to hmg cost and "apparent" uselessness, which we all know to be simple inexperince with the thing. I mean really...I get branded a noob just for /asking/ for it most times, like Shotgun = I've no idea how to play. Plus, a target range with all weapons and free ammo would, frankly, just be fun.
Escpially since despite my best efforts I've no idea how to admin a server, and thus can't sit there offline and drop things for myself.
If anyone would like to take time out of their busy schedule to teach me how to use the map ENGINE, i'm a slightly above avreage mapper. It's just the actuel code part of it that slows me down. So, if anyone needs another mapper for a tutorial level or anything, throw me a PM.
Unrelated. What thread tells you HOW to use the bots? And I mean how from getting it into the program step /1/. Call me an idiot but I can't figure it out, and I got that Crowbot everyones talking about, Thanks Cheesr. I searched, sure, but any help?
