Call To Server Admins...would You Ban A Disruptive

<div class="IPBDescription">Player who keeps harrasing others?</div> E.G.Some guy named "Bob" comes into the server you admin/own,picks a name off the score board and keeps using sarcastic comments to say that this player sucks(lets say,that hes a regular at the server,hes your friend,and you know he doesnt suck).Lets call the victim "John Doe".Bob continues for 1 month(assuming you dont stop him the moment he starts the harrasing routine).John Doe eventually askes you,the admin/owner of the server,to please take action.
Assuming you stopped the harrasment right away....
Would you do something RESEMBLING this :
1.Warning.
2.Kick
3.Temp ban
4.Permanent ban.
If not,please list what you would do.
Assuming you didnt take action immediately,what would you do when John Doe askes you for help?
Would you :
A.Tell him to "SUYF","stop whining" and say "its your fault,you suck!".
B.Take action,perhaps following the format i listed above?Or perhaps an outright permanent ban seeing as how the harrasment has been going on for a MONTH.
Edit : Swear word filter is filtering out the short form for "shut the -".

Every day you let that person harrass your players is a day a potential cool player could be turned off to your server. Get rid of the sour apples before your server goes rotten.

I would like to add something.
Would you,as the admin,accept Bob's argument that he should be NOT be banned because "it is his fault because if he didnt suck,i wouldnt say he sucked.He should stop sucking and stop whining!"

Depending on what he is doing, 2nd time could be a ban also.
<b>Edit:</b> I thought I'd add that on my server, a kick is a warning, and it's the only one you get.
If this was a poll,it would clearly indicate that this is the normal response.
Hmm....ah well just my luck to have to play on ill-admined servers.
In the cases of a disruptive player, I would make an exception.
Im quick to ban. If a player wants back on my server bad enough, they will email me with a nice (sometimes not so nice) explanation of why they shouldnt be banned. 90% of the time, I will remove the ban. Rarely do I have to ban the person a second time.
If they don't email, well, theres plenty of other servers to play on. I don't make a dime off my servers, and to me, the time and effort put in to running them doesn't leave much behind for patience.

we warned the person that impostersous names are not allowed and to change back.
they proceeded to act like an arse so he got banned. our warnings are short and sweet. i don't see any good in giving a person 2 or 3 warnings. if they hear the first time then they should be smart enough to know not to do what they were doing to get under the skin of the players and server admins.
I don't have time for people p1**ing me off, I run the server out of my own pocket using my bandwidth.
Cause trouble and you can expect not to come back.
I completely reserve the right to do what I like on my server. If I am a bad admin, I will lose the regulars and good players.

there are no warnings for violations of that rule, simple sweet permabans. If someone is just talking smack that's different than being dumb. But as soon as they cross the line of being dumb then their first warning is "You have been banned from this server." And then my policy is to inform everyone else playing that the dumb player has been banned so as to avoid confusion over what constitutes being dumb.

Personally, I leave <b>admin_quiet 0</b> just so everyone knows whats happening in the background. It also keeps the admins that I have fairly honest as they know everyone can see the commands they are using.
Rules don't apply to me though... irritate me in any way (and I have extremely bad days at work) and I whip out the banstick and start beating people with it.

If I'm in a good mood, I'm more likely to let things slide...**** me off though, and I get ugly.
On Nano, I have the following policy:
1st warning, kick | 2nd warning, day ban | 3rd warning, week ban | 4th warning, perm ban
Seems to work well so far.
