The most important thing: the commander is your god, listen to him.

And RTFM for the buildings: www.natural-selection.org/manual

    1) First off, you got to know the areas of the map. The way I learned it was explore the map while I played.

    2) Use the "USE" key to build buildings, the default is "E".

    3) Work as a team, if you go at it alone you'll bound to be dead.

    4) Never become a commander, learn to be one by watching an experianced commander and which buildings to place first.

    5) <b>ALWAYS</b> listen to your commander.

That's all I can think of now.
    Just practice and you'll be.....

Reading the manual is probably the first best step, as FireStorm mentioned. Gives you a general overview of whats in the game. Basically the game is marines try to destroy the aliens hive (which is their spawn point) and aliens try to eliminate the marines and destroy their spawn portals and Command chair. Without a hive, the aliens will slowly die...and without a Command chair to make more spawn portals/buildings, the marines cannot respawn and lose.

Next, learn the maps, as they can be confusing to navigate...and some people will mention in game "Go to Cargo Bay!" Each section of the map has a name, so knowing the names is also good. I recommend finding some layouts of maps, which you can find threads about on this forum. Just seach around or ask around. Even though I've played for months, I have print outs of top-down images of the maps with names that are great if I suddenly get lost.

Also, check the keyboard configuration to get an idea of what you can do, like Tsungfai said using "E" to "use," which is very handy. You also have a menu which can be brought up by right clicking...learn about this menu, or find ways to bind the different options to a key instead (you can find info on this forum about that too).

Lastly, play and watch...tell people you are new and ask questions if you don't know. Some people may rag on you for this, but don't listen to them...If no one is willing to help you, then try another server that doesn't have a bunch of punks playing. I can almost recommend trying a server with only a few people...more chance for messing around and figuring stuff out.

    Guess that's about it for now...Good luck! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

Commander = god. Do what he says. Stick in groups. Even if you aren't the best player there is, if there are 4 or 5 others with you, it won't matter. you'll still crush skulks.

I found this site off someone's signature and have found it to be very helpful in navigation.

When you start playing the Khaara follow the same rules for being a gorge that you followed to become a commander...

Its not a strong attack unit, its a base builder, and being the gorge places extra strain on the teams resources, for sevearl reasons.

    1. you get 3 share of the resource pool as opppoed to the 1 you usually get. (this slows the expierenced gorges down a lot.)
    2. Marines will kick gorge butt ( his ranged weapon sucks)

Just so you know.... When you come to playing the gorge, remember that your team needs about 2-3 resource chambers to properly support a gorge. so obviously as the gorges first move you build at least one resource chamber, and to build a upgrade chamber you need to go to the left menu, the right menu contains all the normal structures, the left menu contains upgrades and upgrade structures.
