Confusing
Well um funny thing happened I went to update the NS servers and only got a whopping 26, with NO FILTERS ON (games running ns was on of course). This is happening as of 4:26 Central time 02/12/03. Anyone getting this too? Or did I miss something?

I use ASE and with my normal filters I just filtered out 260+servers
there are about 390 servers I think
however there ARE still problems with it, if you dont see the number of servers you are supposed to be seeing try the following:
"Exit HL completley and re-run the exe"
"If that fails try to use the NS shortcut instead of the standard HL -console shortcut"
"if those two things fail go to the filter screen, set your filter to show your FAVORITES only, then hit update, when its done go back and re-set the filters you want and it should be fine"
I've never had ALL of those steps fail so I hope they work for you
well, I happen to like the lots of customizable filters (no PWneeded, American, NotFull, NotEmpty, running what ever version I want etc ;D)
"Running game -xxx"
"Running Map- xxx"
"Currently Not Full"
"Currently Not Empty"
"Respond quiker than <> "
"On My favorites"
"Dedicated server"
I think only thing ASE does that HL doesnt is allow you to search for friends
I think so too. It told me that my NS executable was out of date when I tried to play this afternoon ; It worked on the second shot though. I think the whole system is a little buggy today.
ASE seems to work okay though. Maybe because it has the main server list cached?
And filter by country, and support almost every other game, and lets you bypass all the HL menus and get straight into the game, and you can fix the loss of sound when you have connected with ASE (press esc once, bringing you to the HL main menu, click config, then done, then resume game - voila). Also you can monitor servers, not just search for friends but it will do it for you using the buddy tracker. Theres a whole lot more customisation available in ASE than HL doesnt have and will never have. Plus when you feel like playing a game, and you have many games installed. Pop in ASE and make your choice from there. I havent used the HL server browser for ages, I dont use it unless im forced to with a gun by my head. ASE has a LOT more than the HL browser. I take it you have never used it! Oh and dont forget the profiles incase you share your system with a buddy...
Oh and its always being updated to support as many games as possible! Phew, I think thats everything.
displays updated servers as they finish being pinged (thus as soon as you see a good one you can open it)
auto retry, if a server is full, it will pop up a small window and constantly ping the server (ever sec I tihnk) untill a slot showes up it will then connect you
Umm, does this happen often? If so, I'd suggest you invest in either a good quality door lock and/or full battle armor (jj, of course ).
I've been using ASE since about 3 weeks after I started playing NS. I find it to be much faster than HL's server browser, and the filters really help in finding a good game. There are a number of people that I really enjoy playing NS with, so the friends list gets a lot of use from me.
My favorite feature of ASE is being able to specify your preferred country/region. Through HL's browser, I'd sometimes end up on an overseas server with a good ping, but every player but me would be speaking a foreign language.
