Selling Structures

<div class="IPBDescription">A way to get around prerequisites?</div> In Natural Selection, Selling a structure makes all future weapons and structures pretend as if that building is still there in function. Example: After you research motion tracking, selling the observatory will still leave you with com sweep, as well as motion tracking for your marines. Selling the arms lab would still let you build a prototype lab, and even put down grenades. However, if the structures in question are DESTROYED, then you lose access to some of their capabilities (such as comsweep for the observatory), although marine upgrades are unaffected. Is this intentional? If so, this means that except for distress beacon, the observatory is useless; if you researched all the upgrades for the arms lab (or all the upgrades you want), selling the structure ensures that you can still put down nade launchers. Eventually, you end up with a marine base that has a couple IPs, an armory, and whatever other structures (in clan scrimmages, most clan forego building a turret factory or phasegates, so selling structures would leave you with only those buildings). Marine bases kinda feel empty, and knowing that when I destroyed the observatory, it takes out the commander's ability to comm sweep hives and whatnot makes me feel kinda good inside =P. What are people's thoughts on this? (selling arms lab + observatory gives you about 35 rps back, enough to equip one marine with a jetpack and a heavy machine gun, or enough to upgrade the armory).
Comments
1) Losing ability to build structures/drop items that require the structure in question: intentional.
2) Retaining researched upgrades: intentional.
3) Retaining ability to build/drop after recycling: bug.
Starcraft is an example of how it's supposed to work. If you lose your armory, you can't build Goliaths... but that doesn't mean all of your vehicles suddenly lose their upgrades.
if you sell the arms lab you cant upgrade your weapons or armor.
if all you wanted was a proto lab or to get motion tracking sure sell them...
Nay. If you sell the arms lab and still have a prototype lab, you won't be able to drop grenade launchers. I tried it today, didn't work.
I think only the scanner sweeping without obs (if that is the case) and the like are the only real probs.
Having two arms labs for fast upgrades, then selling the surplus one when finished makes sense though.
I've never figured out how much you get for selling though. Is it half? What about upgrade costs (eg advanced armory)? Are they lost altogether? And why can't you sell sieges?
