May Never Go Fade Again...

...after todays round. Skulk with celerity+carapace owns Fade. People wonder why some skulkers don't go Fade after second hive is up, and that is simply due to the little tool called "leap". Oh yes, taking out 3 HA in a vent with leap has never been more satisfying. There was a reason for the second hive ability of leap. Why go Fade when you have leap. Just check out the Kharraa strategies forum threads and see for yourself why the skulk is the most lethal force in NS. To tell you the truth, the fade is very over rated since it cannot travel at the speed and manueverability as a celerity skulk without the clumsy and iffy use of the blink ability. No more frustration with hit-box exploiters with leaping skulk either.

This also makes you think back on version 1.0 of NS and how simple kharraa knowledge may have changed the outcome of NS today. For example, the days when people had no clue on how to destroy turrets or kill things. Everyday people are learning new tactics and strategies that, if were learned properly earlier, may have prevented the innitial alterring of the game. Anyway, like the Dev team once stated on version 1.0 release "NS is balanced"

poor playtesters being told they were wrong.

A celerity Fade is just a bigger, tougher, slower skulk. You have to dodge a bit better since you're not as fast, but you've got more combat endurance.

Anyway, nice to see another person dropping out of the Legions Of Acid Llamas and embracing a melee-oriented class

ehh fade with adrin and cara is by far the best force in the game , u have a ranged attack and u can get to the humans in no time at all, as for

QUOTE

    and embracing a melee-oriented class

fades are the best at melee attack cause of there strengh and armour they have :/

quote from the ready room after a marine spanking

"how come we never saw fades that game"

me: "We were having way to much fun killing you with skulks"

I thought it wasnt possible to leap and IMMEDIATELY change to bite.......

There was this guy doing it repeatedly.....i was watching him on commander's screen and he was like INSTANT switch to bite.......

Of course it is. It's as possible as switching to any weapon quickly in nearly any other HL mod. Assuming you use hud_fastswitch 1, or course.

Yea, I use fastswitch. It helps alot when my LMG runs dry and there's one annoying Skulk left. Anyways, I am only O.K with Skulk, as I can't get that many kills for my deaths (at least not without xenocide ). As a Fade w/ cara+adren I will own EVERONE. I took down 3 HA/HMG and one GL/JP ALL AT ONCE as a Fade, and my kill ratio for that game was 58/8, all but one death from my time as a Skulk. So yes, I am staying a Fade.

I usually take regeneration and adrenaline instead. Leap in, bite a few times, leap out, we have several dead marines and I'm healing around the next corner.

Time to get to marine + time to run away before dead = more than enuf time for a marine to get a whole 10 bullets or so into your hide. Doesn't even leave you with any time to bite much of anything. It's not like you can't go run to a hive or some dc's as a skulk, and 2 hive abilities/upgrades just make it faster to run and come back.

I still prefer fades most of the time. It's nice to have all that Health if you get jumped from behind or something...which as a skulk with celerity, I would probably either not survive or be left with little health after. Besides, it's oh so satisfying to acid rocket 3 marines to death at the same time hehehe.

I like playing as skulik with celerity and carapace and just doing hit and run attacks . But i must say, against HMGs the skulik effectiveness is reduced, and HA + HMG makes me useless, so its time to go fade! The claws rip the heavy armour apart well, and the poor marines cant move fast enough to get me!

Skulks have leap, fades have blink. Blinking up to a marine and swiping him might take more skill than a leap (to get on target), but it's more effective than a skulk+leap. Especially with the added health and damage.

I mostly prefer cara/regen + silence as i like seeing the reactions of a group of marines when i come behind them and tear them up..... once i know they have mt and the comm is watching for them, i normally go celer. since between the 2 silence is negated

i normally stay skulk as long as i can for 2 reasons: its normaly more fun, and untill ha/hmg fades arn't needed
and 2 so that the gorge still gets some res, i know once the 2nd hive finishes the gorge's res flow can come to a hault, even with 6+ res towers.....

Na, with adrenaline I don't have to run, I have more than enough energy to leap in and out without getting shot and with regen I last longer in the middle of the group because I'm getting back the health I lost on the way in. Just a matter of what I do best with.

Actually... a counter-point with Skulks versus Fades for blink/slash versus leap/slash...

Skulk's bite is a bit faster than the slash from what I've seen... and does the same damage per... so Skulk's can actually do a bit more damage in the same amount of time than a Fade.

I've noticed this repeatedly when tearing down a structure. Fades don't chew things up as fast as a Skulk does, so if a Skulk comes along, I'll let them chow down while I guard them instead.

Come now, don't forget about flying around as a lerk and biting off marine heads!

Anyway, I never enjoyed the fade that much. Sure, you take a few more rounds, and you can just hold down your fire key and kill a group of marines with ease, but wheres the fun in that? The only other thing I can think of that is just plain old fun is my tactic as a gorge against HA. Think web and babblers.

Killing a HA with healthspray is where it's at! Gorge power!.... oh and uh fades... yah they're ok....um skulk and so on.

It's been my experience that a single skulk is a deadly force when he's being backed up by 2 or 3 fades while assaulting a marine hold.

Pistols and LMGs are way too weak to properly fight a fade, and Shotguns/Nades/HMGs are a bit slow when you're trying to defend yourself against a skulk (preferably one with celerity). So, the optimal solution here is to have the fade assault the turrets and structures from afar while the skulk runs in and bites off heads. ^_^

Celerity fade is better imo, you die alot less

I tried out a blink fade and celerity skulk today, much much more fun then the usual acid rocket Fade. I was playing on Voogru though, which has a nifty /stuck command, so using blink wasnt so much of a risk

Its pretty cool on ns_nothing to blink from the ground of viaduct up onto the walkway right over some guys head and start whacking him from behind. A leap skulk pwnz against light armor marines, they are ok against HA but not too wonderful compared to a blink Fade (although if its a laggy server, your better off with the skulk).

I used to think Aliens were boring, till I tried out all these new combos! Blink Fades ARE good, its just more servers need an un-stuck command!

Oh yeah, aim for the celing while crouch jumping, blink will work 80% of the time then....cant find the thread on it...but it drastically increases your chance to blink.

Yearp, Celerity + Melee Fade = MANY Angry Marines, add in redemption for an almost impossible to kill shock troop. (Step on a nade and your toast) Trick is to fire off 1 rocket to get their attention, then back away, and let them follow you, turn around, run up or blink to them, and slice them to bits.
