no i'm not a pirate
Okay so i've been playing NS since the release with no problems. Starting yesterday, I downloaded ASE and started having all of these problems. First it was my config, then it was my desktop shortcut, and then the WON authentification. I ended up reinstalling HL w/ the patch and then even NS (took a **** hour or two) and now I still can't play!?!! What can I do? I'm sure that the WON servers aren't down because i get a server list. plz help/

I've been using ASE for a few months, and today is the first time I've ever been denied a game because of WON authentication (or apparent lack thereof).

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but when using the ASE client, it connects to an ASE scanner/server for the list of games. Their servers do all the scanning/searching on their own, and all your client program does is contact the ASE server for updated information.

There are loads of people reported in the games on my games list, but I can't seem to join any of 'em either.

correct me if i am wrong but my understanding is that the won servers have changed ips and your isp's dns hasnt updated.

i found your comments incomprehensible, but no matter i got it fixed. i d/l'ed this keychanger app, entered in random 13digit number, and then when halflife prompted me i entered in the real key. then it all worked fine.

Hmm, many people have told me I'm a very articulate speaker. Maybe I just typo'd the other post.

    *reads over my previous post*

Nope, still quite comprehensible to me!

...and to answer the question at hand. You don't authenticate with WON to get server lists if you use 3rd party programs such as SuerIP, ASE or GSA.... which is why you can get serverlists without noticing any problems.
