Well in 75% of the games I play in NS on Pub servers the marines win.

Even with the handicap that siege targets need to be sightet first and with the more expensive scanner sweep.

Wonder what gives the marines their new strength. Altough I already noticed that more and more players on Pub servers use aimbot as marines to get certain kills on skulks.

I'd really like to know where do you play and how many players is there?
If there is more than 24, its not a big deal, but if you play in smaller servers (10-16 players) and marines wins 75 % of the games???....i really have to second on that what -Vash- said...

Marines really never win at all...except maybe once or twice. It is fun to be on the marines when they're winning though, shotguns + jetpacks are hella fun. The other day in ns_nancy we had a freakin massive dog fight in the unnamed hive on ns_nancy. Like 4/5 JP marines and 6 lerks all went at it in the air. It was awesome. (That was their last hive and we had just killed it so obviously the lerks lost, but it was fun nonetheless)

hey the_move to a server that has ns_chilrais...
and try to keep that "marines win 75%" stat.

-Vash- Have you ever had air fight in refinery hive or in to a great viadukt? Those fights rulez <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
Especially if you are a lerk and you got enchanged sight.... Refinery is very dark place and you can see that marine very well with that upgrade, but he hardly see's you <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> It is unfair, but so what? It is still cool

Well once one clan joined in to a pub server. There was 5 clan members and they all went to marines (12 players server) and they really kicked some alien butt.... We had no change at all, because their teamwork and communication worked so well compared to us....

Its all conjecture, it hinges on the total number of players on the server. Bigger servers favor Marines.
  • LindstromLindstrom Join Date: 2002-11-25 Member: 9865Members
Aim bots? I can count on my hand how many times I've run into someone playing with an aimbot, either these servers are crap or maybe marines are just getting better at shooting skulks, I know I am.

Marines with teamwork = bad, bad news for aliens.
Luckily for the aliens (lucky for me since random team usually = aliens), many marines have no CLUE what teamwork means. [sob]

On servers with 14 or less players, the aliens win most of the time. the times I played on larger pub servers, the marines win. There are two factors for this 1) On a larger server the cost of upgrades per marine is much less while the resources scale with the number of marines. 2) There is more of a chance that a small group of marines will work as a team to take out critical targets while the rest run around as fodder.

Of course, even on smaller servers, if the marines are organized, they have a good shot at winning as long as the aliens are not just as organized (and that rarely happens since most people don't notice a detrimental effect of going rambo as alien)

I'm sorry, but I have to at least agree on that aim bot stuff.

I'm thinking cheats has finally made it to NS. Soooo many times have I been a lerk flying away at top speed to be pistoled down easily from 100 meters away...makes me wonder..and from the same guy too...pistol has ten shots, each hits me (I count how many times I'm hit as a lerk, kinda helps to rise my panic rate). Guess he really really predicted my movements.

Not to mention when I'm blinking back and forth, up and down as a fade and still the guy has max aim on me...

its typically rambos too, only when they're dry out of ammo do that die...and they're in clans...

You see, theirs good people, REALLY good people, then theirs uber soldats. Too many uber soldat marines, you know the ha/hmg that kills the lerk, kills the four skulks attacking him, and mortally wounds the fade attacking him...oh boy, that guy sure as some WONDERFUL prediction on enemy movements when they try and circle strafe him, I mean damn, he gunned down the skulk about to flank him while shooting the skulk rushing him from the side mid-air...wow.

Only to say afterwards: "hahaha, pwned", pfft, please...of course, I hold my silence, considering he's a marine and NO marines cheat, right? <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

Excuse me but I am not an allday/everyday player.

But the last 3 times I played NS it was like I told.

I only wanted to know if someone made the same experience. Since most of you disagree, fine then maybe it is some kind of coincidence. There is no need to flame me, since this is no "nerf marines" poll I started here, I simply asked a question.

But in case of the aimbot story, well...

If a marine is shooting at you with his LMG from far distance with pistol accuracy (every round hits) you will think the same I promise.

Not to mention when he does the bunny-hop madness and kills every 4 bouncing skulk with perfect accuracy, thank Flayra for the random firing cones, gives us SOME chance, because sometimes his aimbot will have too many targets to shoot.

When NS is played the way it is meant to be played - with organized team tactics on both sides, and a capable commander - the marines will win. The problem is exascerbated on large servers, and lessened on small servers. This problem - and VAC - will be addressed in 1.1.

Having a clan tag in name does not mean they are actually clan members.

How many people put fake clan tags in their name. I even saw cheaters being kicked out of DoD servers with the OWP Tag in their names.

Do not trust Clantags. They can be smokescreens.

VAC doesn't do much...I remember using OGC and OpenGL wallhacks on CS in any server, VAC or not. I actually tried it for NS too, but because of the complicated NS HUDs it doesn't work very well. The entire top half of the marines screen is black because of the map display thing, and for aliens the Res/Energy bars are all blacked out plus the Hive view thing area. It really hurts more than helps.

I'd like to ask the Dev's if they would consider the issue of whether to go with VAC or with something third-party like Cheating-Death. I believe would be trivial to change the NS install routines to prompt the user to install CD, and to change the NS shortcuts to start CD as well as Half life in NS mode.

And THAT, is SOOOO boring. Only time I choose marines on a pub server is either

    1) the map is ns_nothing, because the sheer NUMBER of res nozzles, many times there are spectacular HA vs Fade and lerk battles. This is like the only map whih makes it to TRUE midgame.

    2) I want to practice relocation or JP/HMG rush as commander.

    3) Aliens are full.

Wow, can't believe most of you see it this way. I thought I was the only one.

Anyway, seems 1.04 fixed some things, but sorta backfired in a way. But yeah, let's hope for the best for 1.1.
