Found an old movie
I was having a browsing around BlueYonder's
download site and noticed something i've never seen
before in the Natural-Selection page.
There was a .divx file entitled "Gameplay footage"
(or something similar). So, being the curious monkey I am,
I downloaded it (i've never watched a .divx file before this)
and was shown some really old looking footage from beta
builds (i presume) of our beloved Natural-Selection, nothing
amazingly out of the oridinary here.... then someething caught my
eye...... "In-game Particle Editing", the movie maker was using
a few bars/meters/guages to adjust the flow/direction/etc of the
particles in the map.
It was amazing stuff and begs the question....... is it in 1.0 ?
Is it planned for 1.1? Or was it soley there for the NSTR ?

The commander demo was quite nice, and i actually like alot of the things shown that arent in the game now, mostly the minimap, because the one now isnt too good.
Very cool to see what NS really evolved from.
the custom made particle system is all the nice smoke and...well particle effects that can be found in the mod..a vast improvement over the original HL ones. And Particle editing is...the editing of particles...eg..size..that kind of stuff
I like the pictorial menu for the aliens too.
I propose a STICKY..(or a WEB)
But then again, the Marine only moved in a direct straight line
so I guess only the Commander of that particular clip knows.
I hope Flayra or someone in the Natural-Selection team will shed
some more light on particle editing. I've love to have a play around
with all those cool effects.
Imagine what the film makers could do with access to it.
The_Family_God + NS + Particle Editor = Militia 2 beater (surely!)
/me pokes Flayra til he cries and gives us abit more info
thats the movie that made me fall in love with ns, heh its been a while
i acutally would have loved to have been a pt just to see how this game evolved from that ;p
I didn't say they were being used illegally, though I think that NS shouldn't use any AT ALL that are made by other companies (In this case blizzard) For their OWN games. I'm sure there are plenty of voice actors and sound editors out there willing to do some for NS for free (such as I.) And if you're hearing NS custom sounds inj movies(made by people who did it specifically for NS) without their permission, well, you can sue some **** and get some money.

Those were just placeholders from a LONG timeago. I don't believe they had a sound editor until pretty late in the making of NS. (Sorry dev team if I'm wrong. )
"editps NAME" - loads in game editing of the ps
"F7" - toggles in gameparticle editing, or just makes NS crash.
The only sounds NS uses that were made by other companies are those from public sound libraries. Those were made by companies specifically to be bought and used by other people. You might notice that there is a door sound in Starcraft that also appears in the movie Aliens. It came from the same public sound library; I think the sound may even be in NS.
In any case where a public library was used, Flayra *bought* the rights to use that library. Any sound that came from a private source (e.g. Starcraft sound effects) was placeholder ONLY, and has since been replaced. There are no stolen/borrowed sounds in NS 1.x.
As for the voices... the Comm Chair/Hive were voiced by the same actress who did the Starcraft Terran dropship and the magic seller in Diablo (yes, the Hive is a chick). (:

What's even more amusing is, the door sound that you hear in Starcraft and NS (run NS_Bast and open the Heavy Lock Doors at the bottom the elevator under the Marine Spawn) is not only in Aliens from 1986. You can actually hear precisely the same sound in Forbidden Planet as doors are opened.
Which came out in 1956.
Now back on topic!
As for that video, good god is that old. I'm almost positive that's from before, or very shortly after I first heard about NS back in September 2001.

It's SO old that it almost seemed to still have the "alien commander" feature to it (in one of flayra's old docs)
