"akimbo" Seiging

<div class="IPBDescription">aka seiging 2 hives at the same time.</div> I did it last night.
NS_nothing:
The aliens had viaduct and powersilo and i moved our base to cargo foyer.

I sent out a couple of marines into the red room and the edge around the powersilo with jetpacks.
Built and upgraded a TF at both places, then spawned 2 seige cannons at both and proceeded to completely take the aliens by surprised and within 3 minutes, in the ready room, there was a ton of:

"OMG! WE HAD 2 HIVES AND FADES AND WE LOST!!! AAAAAGH!"

Not every map is suited for this, and it requires a lot of teamwork (thus, not fit for public servers at all) but if you can pull it off, it's oh so disorienting for the aliens and makes for a quick finish if the aliens do have fades. <!--emo&::siege::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/siege.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='siege.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

Why do people asume that a stratergy only works for clans?

I've seen alot of very similar games of ns_nothing on public servers. I'd have said this was one of the normal stratergies..

(edit: I'd like to correct this comment, while Ive seen similar stratergies I rarey see both seiges going up at the same time... resources are normally too much of an issue.. I personaly prefer to upgrade marines and seige one hive at a time its more reliable <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->)

Sieges are kind of a waste. You can do the same thing with JP/HMG marines, which makes them mobile, and less expensive.

But the perk of sieges is that you almost guarantee it will go down. If the hive is undefended and doubt you will meet with any resistance at all then JP/HMG will do.

Now, I sneaked into generator hive with only 2 movements there and no aliens being killed so that can't spawn there. So the comm notices me and drops a phase. The entire team spawns from the phase almost immediately. The comm says "Ok, ready?..... NOW!" And everyone starts blasting the hive in unison and the sucker was gone before I finished my clip.

If it had OCs we would've just sieged.

And sieges stay there, and will provide protection after the hive is down ,therefore meaning the aliens have to do more work to get thier hive back

My GOD that would take a lot of RTs. Like 5 or 6, I'd think. Or a backlog of 400 res or so. And some heabily upgraded marines to hold off the aliens 'till the hives went down.

Whoo. If they let you have all those RTs, they deserved it. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Not really that expensive.
I just take a bit longer before starting to upgrades stuff/buildings. When i've got about 100 res, then i do it.

    20
    +25
    +25
    +25

    So thats 95 per installation.
(assuimg you use 2 cannons at each)

    20
    +25
    +25

if you just use the one.

So thats 70 res per installation, the problem is a siege cannon isn't garunteed to survive without defence. up top in powersilo is definatly killable, red-room is harder to kill but then you have to scan..

I'm a big fan of building a phase and then spawning the intire team on them.

Needs your intire team to acctually get to base when you ask tho.

so few people do, even when I start saying 'IF YOU ARE NOT NEXT TO A PHASE TYPE KILL AT THE CONSOLE!'

    ho hum

    Ahhhhh yes, double seiging.

It's beautiful. I did this a LONG time ago when seigecannons were still functionable.
(It was more like, built 1 installation, and while it destroyed the other hive, we built the second one. It was purdee)

The best thing to watch with seige cannons, was this one time on bast, the aliens were down to engine room. Our team had ALOT of resources, so the commander started building seiges in the hallway outside of engine. He didn't build 1... nor 2.... nor 3..... nor..... well, we built about 8 seige cannons. We built them all up to the last bar, some other teamates were watching the doors, but we completed all the seiges at roughly the same time, so all the aliens heard was: *BOOM* *BOOM* *BOOM* and it was down.

Sieges work fine, they just require LOS from a marine or pinging.

I used that tactic once in a game I thought was lost for sure. The map was ns_nancy, half of my team wasn't listening to me and the aliens controlled all three hives. Somehow (I am still not sure how this happened) I managed to get the marines to set up two siege outposts and we took down port engine room and subspace array simultaneously. After that, it was a simple matter to smash into nameless with ha/hmg and take down the hive by brute force. Definitely one of my favorite NS games of all time.
