Very hard to decide....
Lately I've had problems deciding whether go HA or JP when the times come to decide. Normally you have half of your team screaming HA and the rest JP.... Now it's very funny because if I go JP we either WACK the kharaa or we get majorly smacked down. If I go HA it works 70% of the time and takes a bit longer, what do you prefer, and why?

but mainly give most of your team ha/hmg. and the better players jp.hmg.
the jp rines can get some decent PG locations. get your heavies to phase there. gg.
BTW niteowl your sig is disturbing....
sorry for disturbing you. why is it disturbing now?
If I have only a few aces on my team, I go JP/HMG and assign them to take out a hive or get to a position really quick so I can siege a hive.
The current trend is to go JP, but because of the losing trend on all of the 8 servers I go to, I decided to do something different for once and went HA. Man! The fade vs heavy battles are just spectaculer and the fade bodies just pile up.
I almost clinched a battle once with a quick HA tech, but they were smart and just attacked our other hive. We might have taken that hive again if it weren't for the others leaving.
never thought about that. god, my sig sounds awful now.
oldFogies was for pseudo-clanners more like , what's the word.. uhm... guild. yeah. so non-serious serious. but still wanted to have good humoured, mature games.
friendly meaning friendly in the non-gross sense, obviously. you are just a sick bugger ;P
way too often has the comm gone striaght for ha or jp and not upgraded at the arms lab, even though one was build seven minutes ago.
As a rule of thumb, i usually begin shoutign at the comm when he goes protolab without having at least 2/1 marines (3 upgrades). Protolab is pretty useless and never saves your butt against 2 hive aliens unless you upgraded at arms lab before.
Also, I can't JP to save my life, and hate watching you little **** flying around while I smack my head on the roof constantly.
naw, we don't curse excessively. we excessivley quote the simpsons (not enough, lately tho) and off and on MPAHG.
fogie1:save that RT
fogie2: i will say Ni to it! and the loathsome rine who is knifing aforementioned rt
fogie1:SHRUBBERY!
fogie2:me fail english? that's unpossible!
oh,and hi inex.
For maps like bast, where there key vents to fly through, and large rooms to assault fades in where they really can't do a thing about it (refinery, and engine to a certain extent), JPs are key to winning if you can avoid the webs.
For maps like caged, where most of the hallways are small, and the ceiling low, HA is the way to go.
It also simply depends on wether or not your marines can /survive/ with a JP on
Personally I love defending with JP/Shotgun or JP/HMG. I'm almost unstopable against anything less than an onos or a very large attack in most rooms as long as Im kept healthy between battles
Good for patrolling and doing guerilla tactics against Aliens with.
Come to think of it, one of you will DEFINTELY need a welder, nothing ruins a jetpackers day more than a web

If you're fighting single-hive aliens and the hive isn't absolutely spammed with OCs, then I'll go JPs.
If the second hive is still building, your team works together decently, and a scan shows one hive to be relatively clean, and you've only got 2 or 3 RTs, then go JPs.
If the situation is as above, but you've got 4+ RTs, then go HA. Jetpackers can kill hives, but they're generally not real good at holding territory. Once a squad of HA sweep a hive, there should be nothing left.
If you're fighting two-hive aliens but they suck like ten thousand pornstars in a black hole, go JP. It's more entertaining.
If you're fighting two-hive aliens that are at least decent, save and go HA. A good commandogorge can still bork you, but it's a pretty even fight. REMEMBER AT LEAST ONE GL.
If you're fighting three hive aliens, then you go back to JPs because really, HA are as grain before the scythe when they run into an onos or two.
And of course, as someone pointed out, maps figure into this. JPers become much less viable on a map like ns_nothing.

HELLO RED ROOM VENT?!?! POWERSILO?!??! WALKWAY AT VIADUCT!!?!?
I cant count the number of times that Jetpackers hae saved the day on Nothing. But I will agree with you that HA can do just about as much as JP, but in a much longer timeframe (Ever had to walk from Generator to either Cargo or Viaduct hive in Heavy armour? By the time your there, generator is either dead? or a hive base is, Jetpacks can cover the distance in a fraction of the time, and with Viaducts high ceiling, can hold their own, so long as no gorge put up OC's on the top walkway.
For me, it really depends on the situation. If my team is getting pounded just trying to setup a minibase nearby a hive, then probably Heavy Armour, unless I have 2 guys that Know thier stuff, then I give them a JP/HMG/welder and let them try to kill a hive (Ill scan beforehand to see if they can make it)
Nothing more satisfying than killing a hive TWICE in one game for your commander. Some guys just need a chance to shine.
And 1 hive-siege location jetpack friendly.
Actually 2 are siege friendly, but only against non-attentive aliens.

this is the reason why ppl dont comm...
if u want to shout at the comm for not doing what in ur opinion is the right way then u should have gone comm.
just accept the fact there is more than one way to comm and let the comm do what he wants. hes in the chair not u. just follow orders.
u should never have to shout at the comm EVER. just eject if hes that bad.
being comm is a learning process and as such let him learn by his mistakes, not from some person shouting orders at his own commander
If it didn't take so rediculously long to make a half-decent squad of HA marines; than I would prefer them.
That is not the case, so jetpax are cheaper and more efficient in general.

Well you do need 3-4 RTs, about the same amount of RTs that aliens need to go all out Fade.
1. Map. On ns_nothing, get jetpack. On ns_eclipse, HA might be better. Kinda obvious, large open hiverooms mean jetpacks are more effective.
2. Resources. If you don't have a lot of nodes, you'll only be able to afford a few heavies. Heavies work exponentially better in larger groups, don't bother with HA if you're only going to be able to afford two.
3. Marines. If your marines have good teamwork but crappy individual skills, get HA. If your marines have individual skills but no teamwork, get jetpack. If your marines have neither, get a jetpack and HMG for yourself and take out those hives, the aliens must be crappy too if they let such a team get the res for jp/hmg.
